I'm the dummy not you. I have noticed lots of people talking about getting out their Valentine's Day decorations. Honestly, I thought these people were a little much, I mean, I love to decorate as much as the next chick but for Valentines? Good grief, I just now got my Christmas decorations good and cold in the attic.
Then, I overheard one of my boys telling my husband, "Mommy doesn't know how to decorate for Valentine's Day". WHOA. I cannot let that happen.
After a quick search of all things red and heart in my house, here's what I found:
*red ribbon
*heart shaped Christmas ornaments
*red books
*empty picture frame
*red and pink scrapbook paper
*a heart shaped rock one of my boys found for me
I hadn't thought of this before but, this is my first year homeschooling and my boys have been in school with lavish decor for every holiday and regular day. I know as a child I throughly enjoyed everything decorative. Imagine that. So, why not have fun making it pretty together. For free!
We tied a little string up at the mantle and they went to town making hearts. After about 3 fist fights, crying because of the lack of heart drawing ability, and being sent to their rooms because of bad attitudes, I'd say we had a really productive morning decorating for this holiday filled with love.

It looks awesome! I think we're going to decorate kleenex boxes to put our valentines in. I wish I had a mantle- that would be loads more fun!
I am forever of the school of "hang a string and clip stuff from it with clothespins"--you can decorate for any holiday like that :)!
I struggled with not having my homeschool look like a classroom for a while too. We find places to squeeze things in, but I'd really rather not have a giant multiplication chart hanging in my dining room....
I love your heart-shaped rock. I'd love to start collecting those--but I haven't found any yet :(.

I'd always loved the idea of sitting and making things, with the kids, but it always seemed to end up in one of us getting cross and going off in a huff (usually me!)

I think your decorations are adorable! I'm not really a 'small holiday' decorator... but I fully plan on getting some pink flowers somehow, somewhere. :)

I know what you mean. I'm all about decorating but for every holiday I think not. I have one woodend heart on my door and that's it. I'm sure you've heard this before but you are so funny.

Now that is my idea of decorating for Valentine's Day! Love the things you came up with... especially the 'garland' of hearts with the wooden clothes pins.

My favorite is the heart in the frame. I do decorate for Valentines. Mostly I hang up last years Valentines and put out red stuff that I already have. I love this holiday because there is no plan like at Christmas. What ever I want to put out and however much. Just pretty!

OK y'all, I just visited Jennifer P's blog and she had this heart garland with close pins up on her window last week! And of course, hers looks a million times better than mine with rick rac, painted close pins! I bet her boys didn't even fight when they did theirs!

LOL at your boys! I'd have a heart attack if mine ever say anything like that to my husband. (And they might, since I don't decorate for Valentine's Day - or any holiday except Christmas and Hanukkah!)

Your post made me laugh! First, I forgot you homeschooled! I homeschool two of my boys and we soooo often say This is supposed to be FUN!!! What happens? lol
The kids were supposed to help me create the heart wreath from little birdie secrets blog and I ended up doing it by myself and having them create valentine's with shrinky dinks yesterday. Today I think after we made sugar cookies found on another blog, we will practice making hearts on strings like you did here...wish I had a mantle, but taping it along the wall should do just fine!
