My Summer Vacation

This year on my summer vacation, I did lots of things. I gazed at this hunk of masculinity.

Pulled a Fussy at the beach with my hat.

Traveled like the Beverly Hillbillies.

Made an Apple turnover.

Didn't read these.

Made these.

I even redid this project. A few of you tasteful readers showed me your hutch and shelves where you used this harlequin pattern and I've been jealous ever since. Make yourself known in the comments you talented souls and feel free to leave a link to your posts about it. I've got your blogs bookmarked somewhere deep in that apple turnover so I cannot give you the credit you are due!

And I didn't even fret about all the seams and unmatching paper you can see when you look too closely. Hopefully the photos of my boys and old house will be captivating enough to hold the attention away from my inpatient installation of scrapbook paper. Oh, and yes, it's ok to get out your pumpkins now, it's August!

I'm number 1, yippee number 1, I can't believe I'm number 1! I'm first to leave a comment on the Nester's blog. Nana nana boo boo!

Anyhoo, welcome back Nester! I love that photo of the kids in the car. Where did you find time to re-do your hutch? It takes me weeks to recoup from vacation. :-)

Look at that wee little pumpkin in the hutch! Isn't that adorable?! So is your beach hat. So beachy and southern! Love it!

Oh, and, um, you can *somewhat* see out of the back window of the car (aka Bev. Hillbilly Mobile) so you're way ahead of me. Yeah, you have THREE kids to my ONE, and we had stuff strapped to the car. (Not the baby.)

Welcome back! :o)

Okay, that's what I get for taking so long to leave a comment. :-(

Looks like a fun family vacation. You seem to have been productive also. I love the tassels and the new paper looks great! I like the three shelves the same and the pattern and color! Super....and how great to easily change from the previous paper!

Love your vacation pics. I love your apple turnover. Too cute but I would really like to eat a real one right about now. Finally, I love your hutch. I am in a rental home and the owner won't allow us to paint anything other than the stark white she already has. Makes me crazy as I'm used to the beautiful custom colors from my own home in Vegas (currently rented out due to the horrible Vegas market). YUMMY and oh so cozy.

So anyway, I feel stuck. I have beautiful pottery from Poland and a set of Lennox Butler's Pantry dishes too but once I put them up they seem to fade into the UGLY white walls. GRRR!! For now, I live vicariously through you and your decorating. Keep it coming please! Someday I will be able to decorate my home again and I hope to use many of your ideas with my own twist.

Welcome home!

I can't wait to pull out the pumpkins; autumn is my favorite decorating season!

PS-Love your Mac laptops; I got one of the same about a year ago, and I love it ... but I'm sure there are still a lot of features that I don't even know how to use yet.

Was my china cabinet one of the harlequin patterns you were referring to? If so (or even if not), here it is...

Oh! And I meant to say that I love yours so much with the harlequin on all the shelves. I'm racing out to the craft store to get more of that paper and change mine to all harlequin.

no one actually thinks that I purchased 3 new computers , went on a week long luxury vacation and just got a new car-- do you?

Oh, if you are in need of a new mac and homeschool, you qualify for the education discount {$100 off} and can do the ipod/printer rebate {$399} and then sell them on craigslist for almost as much! That's a great deal right now on a computer! $500 in rebate/discount plus whatever you can sell the printer and new ipod for!

If you are wondering about our big nice vehicle, we bought it when my husband was making the big bucks and it will be paid off in a few months! Counting down the days! Dave said to keep it. But oh how the gas hurts!

Our vacation was at a family beach house from Saturday to Tuesday so my hard working husband could work on Wednesday. Thanks in laws for a paid for vacation every year! We are so blessed!

I love you all especially you BBC people!! Feel free to ask me any questions--we sure have made stupid mistakes and try hard to learn from them! I'll be the first to admit we are not perfect!

Thanks for reading!

Sounds like a great week! I love the hutch makeover and the new tassels. I live in the mountains and I can't wait for the leaves to start turning - my favorite time of year.

I got to go to the Southern Living Idea Home outside of Asheville, NC this past weekend and I have to say, they are ripping you off! :) The kids room was really "mistreated"! I mean, when Southern Living says it's cool, you know you are a real trendsetter!

So glad you had a great family vacation!

I can't WAIT for fall and Halloween! It's my favorite time of year ( especially since in central TX, it's when you can acutally breath outside ) and always get excited when the stores put out all the garb.

Pining for a tassel, saving my pennies now!

Love the hutch, too!!

nester, you rock.

my mom is taking me and the kids to the beach next month - free vacations are freaking awesome. people who nitpick others' lives and make ASSumptions - not so much.

Oh, Nester, how I do love thee. I also love the big floppy straw hat when I go to the beach.

We're not going this year and I'm so sad not to see the ocean. :(

Hope you had fun! Love the hutch.

I'm so glad I can always learn something new here--before you called your new hutch paper (NOT applied with double-sided tape of course) harlequin, I thought it was argyle. Even though argyle looks slightly different. How embarrassing.
I like it--it looks so edgy. Hopefully your plates don't feel edgy and try to jump and ruin the whole arrangement.
Apparently, too, I've been ignorant about how early to dig out the pumpkins--Watch out neighborhood, I'm about to start a new trend! (Our neighborhood is full of old people, so I'm the edgy one here.)

Girl you are an aboslute GEM and inspiration! Gotta say love the hat... but in the words of Meg Ryan on butterflies, hats, subways and Bloomingdales... truly are hats a mistake? I contest the notion! You look delovely! Especially next to that fine specimen of a hub (I mean that in the nicest respect). I am enjoying my pumpkins as well... might I ask where you got that specific harlequin pattern... I do {heart} that pattern... looking forward to our mistreatments as well!!
