Flying Monkeys

Yesterday you asked to see the flying monkeys.

I'll admit, I had already cleaned up because my sister was/is here visiting so the horribleness was mostly gone by the time I took these photos.

But, like I said, I focus on one room at a time. Yes, that's a mattress on the floor.

Our tween boy wants a "low" bed and needs more room in his room. So we took his sleigh bed and we'll sell our old bed.

Mercy there are 4 windows in our room. I feel some mistreatments coming on. I wish I could snap my fingers and have this room done. The living room took about 4 hours for me to get right. Anyone want to come help me with our bedroom? Can you please bring a bag of cash with you? It's so much easier to make a room pretty with a big bag of cash. Cold and hard preferably.

This is where we are supposed to be parking my husband's truck. Our neighborhood has rules and one of them is if you vehicle has writing then you have to hide it and not bring down the hood with your blue collar lettered truck. I feel a yard sale coming on too.

DO NOT HAVE THAT YARD SALE WITHOUT GIVING ME A PREVIEW SALE FIRST! Okay, so I got a little spastic about that one, but I'm really excited at the prospect of a yard sale at your house in the fancy new hood.

Kasey Hunt said...

Man, I wished I lived closer to you if you have a yard sale!! Hey- I've featured my Mom's house today on my blog. She is antique collector, but not too country. Feel free to leave any feedback of your expertise!! www.qkhunt.blogspot.com
Thanks,
Kasey

At least your honest. Love all the clutter, can I come to the yard sale?

Still Learning said...

Are you kidding me with the truck thing? Good golly, I'd need a four car garage because we have every single veichle lettered with my hubby's remodeling business logos. Windows and all, lol. WOW. That must be some hood you are living in. Well, you are new there so I'm sure they will give you some slack. Wow.

Okay, um, if you have a yard sale you have to tell all of us first so we can all fly/drive over and buy up your great stuff okay?

I am praying you have fun unpacking and hammering all your new stuff up. I'm sure your sister was a big helper. BTW, a friend of mine recently painted one of her rooms tobacco road and she lOVES it. So she says thank you.

Have fun unpacking,

Jennifer

How about a virtual yard sale? You could post pics and we could bid. Sounds good to me!

Magic Brush said...

I wanna come help you! Oh... except I have no cash. Bummer.

Sorry about the hubby and the vehicle. Wow.

Katie said...

Okay, so I don't have a big bag of cash to bring over to help you get everything set up... but I could bring some sweet tea and prop myself up on the couch and watch you work your magic.

Catherine said...

Yes yes! Ebay please!

Christi said...

So, would having "Go Big Red - NC Allstars #10" painted on your windows with glass chalk count as lettering on a truck? 'Cause our baseball allstars have been over for 2 weeks, & I haven't washed my car yet.

We'd never survive in a neighborhood!!

Man, I sure wish I lived close enough to come to a yard sale at your house!

GodSeeker said...

Dear Mrs. Nester, I too moved (about a month ago) and my house still looks like yours! I have 5 flying monkeys. The boxes are everywhere. The garage is full. *sigh* Thanks for being so painfully honest. :o) Blessings as you find places for all the things you love!!!

Thank you for posting these!! I feel much better today seeing these pictures. By the way, I will gladly bring over a bag of cash if you can rub off some of your nesting abilities on me!

Brenda said...

You just absolutely have to be kidding about that rule! We would be in a world of hurt in my neighborhood with our tiny garages and TONS of "work trucks." Guess we are just trashy over here! :)

the wild raspberry said...

i just read about your homeschool room post...we do have our own classroom. i thrive on organization {or at least being able to shut the door and not see all the maps and charts and posters and awards and piles and PILES of books!....}

Golly gee, what's up with that vehicle rule? Don't all vehicles have "lettering" on them to some extent? I guess they're referring more to a vehicle with an advertisement on it...? I guess we like to do it redneck style here, because this is definitely the first time I've heard of such! :)

I love, love, love your blog and one of these days will actually put some of your advice and tips to use. All the pictures of your home(s) are absolutely gorgeous!!! What a talented person you are :)

blessdtwice said...

Oh honey, that looks great! Seriously, I moved with a newborn (6 wks) and a two year old...we lived with "flying monkeys" for years...you'll have it whipped into shape in no time.

And I too wish I could attend your garage sale...I'm drooling at the thought of it!!

Hang in there darling! It will all be worth it!!

Kelly said...

Well, I live in a subdivision that would look a LOT nicer if we did have that rule! They won't let boats or campers etc. sit out, but yet my neighbor can park his commercial plumber vehicle (diesel, no less) with glow in the dark lettering in his driveway where we can look at it right outside our side window. Nice, huh? There is a good reason for that rule. Trust me!

Your cool friend Cheryl said...

Have your yard sale as a blog sale, please!

Tanya said...

That garage looks familiar!ha ha Mine has too many pieces of furniture to paint and I need to get busy!

Wendy @ The Shabby Nest said...

I can't wait for you to talk about painting your armoire. I love the fact that the robin's egg blue looks right at home with your red and yellow. You have a gift for color!

imamom said...

Do your new floors that give the walls a pick hue mean that you could or could not paint Tabacco Road? I think I remember in past posts that you don't like that color with things that tend to look pink - I'm wondering about your floors. :-)
We live in an association with crazy rules too - big brother is always watching us! :-)
Blessings as you unpack - thanks for the pics!

I will be at your yard sale! Thanks for keeping it real. Our garage looks so much worse... we moved 9 months ago!!! But, we had lived in a smaller rental and couldn't unpack a lot before this house... I have had some stuff packed for over 3 years!!!! (My hubby says we can get rid of it all, since I obviously don't need it. I don't think so!!!) Blessings!

Kat said...

Just looked at yesterday's post, too. Are you suuuuuuuure that house is a rental? I've never seen a rental that nice. I just can't get over it....

Laura Ingalls Gunn said...

My daughter is in the midst of moving out of our nest into her first and for some reason my house looks similar.
She too wants a low bed. :)

Kelly said...

We moved in 3 months ago and the basement is full of flying monkeys!

Lindy said...

I am totally feeling the online yard sale. I moved last November and you don't even want to see my basement. I try to straighten it up occasionally because I don't want Niecey Nash from "Clean House" showing up at my door. Or do I? No.

Sue @ My Party of 6 said...

I love that you showed us this! Although even your mess looks cozy. Maybe because it's in your house and not in mine!

TheOldPostRoad said...

Thank you for showing the flying monkeys. Really not so bad. The cash thing certainly makes it easier, doesn't it? Oh, well.

Rachel said...

Oh my lands alive, if you have a yard sale - I wanna come!!! I so much wish my homes could look that good after just having moved!!!! My house looks like that right now sometimes (o.k minus the boxes).

I have to say, I just love, love, love how real you are. I love your home and the way you decorate. You have inspired me more than you know.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS WEEKEND. I AM DETERMINED TO ENJOY THE PROCESS, NOT LET IT STRESS ME OUT, USE WHAT I ALREADY HAVE, AND BE GRATEFUL FOR "WHERE" GOD HAS US. IN OUR HOUSE, AND OUR LIVES.

HUGS FROM MAINE

P.S., THE LIVINGROOM LOOKS GREAT!

At least you have the living room finished where you can go and just relax after smacking down the flying monkeys all over the rest of the house.

I have been trying to convince my husband to take me to your part of the country. My sister just got back from the Outer Banks and now I want to go, plus I could visit your sister and Jen, AND help you move into your house...there would be so much to do! : )

IsrelFamily said...

Fortunately for myself I do live somewhat near you so please a heads up on THE BED FOR SALE as well as the yard sale. The old bed looks just like my grandmothers when I was growing up and have always wanted one!

Colleen P. said...

Oh Nester, it will be okay, I promise!

Bear in mind this is coming from someone that has a mattress and box spring perched on their sides in the big front picture window of her house right now because she had to fix a water damaged area in her sons ceiling that turned into replacing half the ceiling that turned into completely reallocating all of the bedrooms. Which is going to take more time, which I have loads of, and money, which I have none of.

So I decided after I got almost done with that I'd spruce up the front of the house!;-D The Husband is a bit bemused at my sudden urge to fix up the exterior but being him he just goes with it.

My shutters, flowerboxes, and freshly gloss-black painted mailbox and light fixture are to die for, seriously. As long as you ignore the mattress in the front window. With the big fat lazy white cat lying across the top of it, belly to the world.

I have every confidence that I will get it all taken care of and completely fall in love with my house just before the husband gets the Best. Job. Offer. Ever. Out of state.

In other words-I am my own Flying Monkey.

i think there are too many rules in neighborhoods. I'd probably build out a billboard over the roof.

oh that is no way to make friends though is it?

Amanda @ Serenity Now said...

I wish I could come to your yard sale!!! :) Love your *new* bed. :)

Carrie said...

Wow, I can't believe that the neighbourhood has rules about lettering on vehicles.

leannewill said...

We have just moved, too! We moved out of a subdivision and into the country!! My garage would make yours look like the Hyatt! (SERIOUSLY, I had NO idea we had so much... CRAP!) Because we finally got to buy a house, I am getting the pleasure of painting it... on a shoe string budget! (My husband found 2 gallons of Hopsack for $5 each at SW and then a 5 gal bucket of Beach House for the living areas, and talked them down to $20!!) SO, I feel your pain!! I guess we need to find us a "money tree!" LOL

Those blasted neighborhood rules! Love the flying monkey pics too, but you just moved in~what is it supposed to look like? You're doing great.
Any-hoo, you want the befores to look as bad as possible so the afters look even better :)

farmhouse wares said...

Doesn't every garage look like that? I have a friend who always says, "If you finished it all today what would you do tomorrow?"

Ka-Lee said...

I'm going to pick your brain. What color white do you recommend for white trim? It is intimidating to pick one for my new remodel with so many choices! I, like you enjoy the warmer colors. Does that have anything to do with whites? (Yeah, I'm clueless!)

Amanda@Imperfectly Beautiful said...

Obviously, my flying monkeys are a bit messier than yours! I think you're doing great. It just takes time. And when it's all done it will be Nester Fabulous!

Hey, at least all your gray rubbermaids are up, matching and looking organized. Love rubber maids. For lifetime movers, they're a super investment.

Maybe you could just work up a mistreatment for the letters on your husbands truck. How does your hood feel about auto curtains? They were supa fresh back in the 80's and Early 90's... especially those pimped up LandMark Vans. Sigh... yes, I speak out of experience. Fast forward 20 years and 6 kids later... I'm turning into my mother.

Ruth said...

I don't think it's that bad. It hasn't been long since you moved. Wish I could come to your yard sale. I'm sure I could pick up some treasures there.

I just love seeing what you can do wiht a new home! Love the updates and the "previews"!

Kristen said...

Thanks for posting your "flying monkeys." I'm still trying to unpack and decorate. Although I agree with what someone else said...your flying monkeys don't look nearly as bad in your house as mine...I guess because it's not MY stuff! :)

Mrs. Reverend Doctor said...

I moved 1 1/2 years ago and my house still looks like yours...

Sophie said...

Oh how relieved I am to see your flying monkeys! I was beginning to get depressed at how lovely your living room was and how we still seem to be living in a mishmash of studentdom mess even though we are in our mid 30s! There's hope for me!

Aubrey said...

That's it. It's time for me to start storing everything in baskets instead of falling apart, taped together Huggies boxes. It makes the mess look that much better already. I should have saved the boxes to build an additio on my house. Or used cloth diapers, gone nuts, and gone to the loony farm instead--but at least we would have saved some money. Then I could have built an addition or come and not really help you very much--I'm really good at sitting and watching.

rachel blazer said...

i can't believe there are rules like that in neighborhoods! do they realize how much they rely on people who drive trucks with letters on them? bet they want those trucks around when they need something built or fixed or moved or installed...
good luck with the monkeys- we're getting ready to move, too, and i'm not looking forward to the feces flinging! oh, but the furniture placement & new windows should be fun!

chickadee@afamiliarpath said...

i love it! it looks just like my house. although i know it will turn beautiful soon. can't wait to see what you do with it all.

Susie Q said...

Lordy I had HOAs...with a passion. We've lived in a neighborhood with one exactly ONE time...and getting the landlord to cut those overhanging branches were rough. Our truck had a magnetic sign, so he'd take that off at night, but we had a trailer that was used more nights than not that was tucked in behind a HUGE bush...it couldn't go inside the fence unless we put a gate in the fence of a rental home (that needed a new fence) OR put it in the garage. Um, the garage was full of custom woodworking equipment. NOT gonna happen. We fought them for 2 years.

I CANNOT IMAGINE HOW MUCH FUN IT WOULD BE TO GO TO A NESTER YARD SALE!!!! : ) I might be tempted to walk from Idaho to go to that one! : )

Doug and Cherie Yost said...

wait..did you say your living room took 4 hours to get it right? I have been living in a house for 4 years and I still can not get it right! LOL

Imperfect said...

Did I read something about a yard sale? I would totally be there! Glad to hear that you are slowly getting settled in - it would be nice to snap and have it all be over, wouldn't it?

Patti said...

You will love it when your plan comes together.
For now, bless your mess!

Griffith Family said...

I just love reading your posts and looking at your website. Your taste and perfect imperfections are fabulous. And I love that you rent. All you do with a house you don't own inspires me to do a lot with the one we do. You inspire me to be more creative (and doing- not just dreaming). Love the plates too.

Mrs. Trixi said...

Oh, Nester, only you could make moving look so good. I still, a year later, have monkey rooms and probably will for another year.LOL
