Do you ever see a room and wonder how much it cost to furnish it? Are you amazed at how others are able to find great junk at yard sales and then actually work it into the design of their space? Do you wonder what items people are willing to pay more for and why? Do you want to show off your great finds? Me too!
How fun would it be if we all linked up and Priced our Spaces together? You can show an entire room, a wall or whatever and go into however much depth you feel like revealing. Don't feel like you have to tell the world how much you spent on everything. It's really about encouraging others that good deals are out there and, that there are some things that are worth paying full price for. I'll start with a photo of our family room to show you what I'm talking about. If you want to do the fancy number thing you can open a photo bucket account for free and edit your photo to add numbers.

Price My Space Party is Monday, July 13!

I'll price this room in another post before the party. So stay tuned. Until then, start thinking about what room you want to price.

HALP! Be honest, is this a bad idea? I woke up this morning in a cold sweat telling myself this is an idiot idea and that everyone wants to know what people spend but that no one will be willing to actually tell. Am I the only one willing to spill the proverbial beans or would you join me? Really, we don't have to do it.
In other news, I just saw this:
I think that's Nesting Place and I guess that means it's been nominated for the Blog You've Learned the Most From award. What a fantastic category! If you agree with that, I'd love to have your vote because you know, I never win anything.

I think its a great idea! I love to show & tell, because I'm proud to decorate my home on such a budget. Although there are lots of things I (personally) have built that decorate my home, so those are dirt cheap. This will give me extra incentive to actually get my kitchen completely finished for it's big reveal! Heck, I might do the dining room, too! Thanks again for another fabulous party idea!
Heck no! Thrifty people LOVE to share their treasures. I think we secretly hope it will inspire others to think outside of the box and take decorating risks.
I think this is a GREAT idea and would happily join in but I live in England so I'm not sure that my prices would be relevant to your US readers.
I think it's a great idea! I love telling everyone how much I didn't pay for things while I'm surrounded with people that love to talk about how much they spent. Please! Overspending is for the birds! Can't wait to do this. I have just the room!!! Btw - LOVE your blog!!!!
Good morning! I think this sounds like a FUN party! I have NO clue when it comes to photo editing, and I don't have a photo bucket account, or an account with any of those other places. I might give it a try if I can figure it out. :)
Are you kidding? This is a great idea! I LOVE to know how much people pay for things! Weirdly voyeuristic, but there you have it:)
I am delurking to tell you that I think it is a FABULOUS idea! I will get to work on my favorite space for your party!
Love it!
Super idea!
Jen M, I lived in England for six years and came back to the US just two years ago. I'd be happy to translate it into US prices for you. Please do join in! British charity shops are THE BEST sources for nifty decorating items, and I treasure the ones I have from them.
I think it sounds Great!
I'd love to tell about my awesome find. Thank you for sharing, it's encouraging to those of us who have no clue what to do.
JEN Yes! We still want to know, pounds, sixpence whatever!
And about photobucket--it's free! And so easy even I can do it! But you totally don't need to do that. A photo is fine and then you can list what stuff you want to price.
I love the idea - i've always been willing to share price tags.
And I voted for ya.
I love the idea- I love to tell people that ridicules amounts I paid for things!
Oooh, fun! I think it's a great idea! You can do a LOT with little. I'll have to get my post ready...hmm...which room...
Now, I'm off to vote for you! :o)
I think it's a fabulous idea! I love to tell how much I didn't pay, and I've been dying (I know, maybe I need to get a life!) to know how much it's cost you to furnish your home.
Can't wait!
I LOVE this idea!! Are you kidding me? I was going to ask HOW MANY rooms we can price?? This is right up my alley and you know I'll be vying for a top place on Mr. Linky. We're like this X
I think it's a good idea. The only hard part is getting one room clean enough to take an entire picture in!
Kristen {THAT} do as many rooms as your heart desires--your entire house if you wish!
I think it sounds FUN!!!! We can all share our great finds & creations:)
I like the idea too. Who isn't curious about these things.
I've done a price list for my office and my guest bedroom.

and

I think it's a great idea. Plus, it will give me impetus to get my house staged properly (we're trying to sell).
LOVE THIS IDEA!!! My immediate first thought was total excitement... partly because I'm nosy about stuff like this and parly because I can always use ideas. I hope lots of people link!! What a great and ORIGINAL idea!
Great idea! I can't wait to see what everybody's done and for how much. It always inspires me when I read this kind of thing and hear how much it costs.
It's a terrific idea -- I have often thought of doing something like this, especially if I get a comment about a room that is something like "but I could never afford those lovely things." And I think, well, maybe you can!
Decorating on a budget is a lifelong hobby of mine, and I'd love to share it. There are people who are meant to buy new, and buy "matching," and then there are the rest of us!
Cass
Well done with the nomination, did you know you are also nominated for the Most Inspiring Category too?
I am soooo excited about this idea!!! I already have one post exactly like what you're talking about:
http://themaskedmommy.blogspot.com/2009/04/decorating-thrifty-20-ways-i-saved.html
I think I will do my living room next :-)
oh, this sounds like fun! Can't wait to see all the great ideas on the 13th.
Fun idea and you got my vote!
I think it's a great idea too. I'm not the very best bargain shopper but love to see what others do. I'm more of a "must fall in love with it and then buy it no matter what" kind of girl. It's a terrible affliction. :)
i'm game!
now i just need to figure out which room...
i'm off to vote!
i think it's a great idea! if someone comments on something of mine...i always feel obligated to tell them where i got it and for how much. because everything i have is from a thrift store, craigs list, yard sale or picked up on the side of the road. i love finding great stuff on the cheap and telling people about it! i'll join in! TOTALLY do it!
Excellent idea, I can't wait to see and I might even participate!
Can't wait! Do I have to label and price the mess too? hahaha
Jade LD? No!!! Nesting Place most inspiring too? I had no idea ! Thank you!
Just de-lurking to say that I love your blog and I love this idea. I'm voting for you, too, because I really have learned so much from you. You are so talented and you've really inspired me. Thanks!
I really like this idea. It is also nice to read that other bloggers out there also have those "is this a good idea, will anyone read this?". It sounds from the resounding 30+ comment response that bloggers are eager and willing to participate! I am in the midst of redecorating our living space, inside and outside landscaping and am looking for great ideas...so I am excited to read what everyone has to say! Thanks,
Abbie
Love. It.
Thanks Nester!
I think it is a great idea! And would love to see what other people have done.
I think this is a GREAT idea! Looking forward to July 13th!
I think it's a good idea! Good buys will vary from state to state, since we don't all have the same stores, but I think it would be interesting to see.
Love the numbering in the picture idea! I just need to get good, clear pics.
Thanks for sharing. I get so excited about great deals and finding new life for old stuff. The more ideas the better! Thanks!
Great Idea!! I'll see if I can get a room together by then to post. Sally
I would be happy to tell, but all my stuff is in boxes. I suppose I could use an old photo of my living room, you know, for information purposes. When do you plan on doing this?
This is a genius idea! I like to mentally add up everything in a room, to see how much I've spent. It gives me a little thrill to see how little I've spent. :) I will be here for this!
I think it is awesome. I used to get in trouble as a little girl. Someone would complement my dress and I would say "It was on clearance" My mother was mortified. I for one and proud when I (or my house) look hot AND itw as cheap OR BETTER..>FREEEEEEEE! LOL
I don't have a room done enough to share yet. BUT I am so thankful you are doing this because I am starting to get brave enough to decorate and will have to do it on a budget. I'm looking forward to learning from everyone.
Great idea! Especially since I just snagged the cutest little chippy-pain nightstand for $2 at a yard sale. OH - and I voted for you!
It's a great idea. Not sure I would join in, but I love seeing how others decorate so I would love to look at everyone's spaces.
I get a LOT of inspiration from many of the blogs I follow (yours included!) and so your award is well deserved.
Nancy
Yes, yes, yes-this is a GREAT idea! I love bragging about my cheap deals from garage sales and Goodwill! Love it! I will definitely be participating and can't wait to see everyone's links!
-Jill
Sounds like a very cool idea Nester! I LIKE IT, but I'm just nosey like that...
~Misti
I LOVE this idea, for many reasons
--we'll get to see so many cool ideas. My favorite things have literally come from someone else's trash pile during city cleanup. yippee. This is going to be fun! And congrats on the nomination(s)!
Fabulous idea! This will be fun!
Amy
I can't wait to see the results of this! We're moving at the end of July, so I don't think I'll be able to participate, but I'm looking forward to getting great ideas for our next place.
Ok - After 53 comments, I'm pretty sure you know by now that this is a great idea :-). But for what it's worth, I COMPLETELY agree. I think a lot of people look at pretty homes and think there's no way they can afford to have a lovely home themselves. It would be a great eye opener to say "That great dresser over there? $30 bucks...I'm not kidding...and here's where I found it."
Anyhoo...I know I'm preaching to the choir here, so I'll stop pontificating.
Have a great Fourth of July!
Nester, this is, of course, a brilliant idea. But I do think, along with cost, folks should try to list their time invested.
I'm coming to realize that scouring garage sales and Goodwill, stripping off paint, sanding, staining, painting and polishing take considerable time.
So right now in my house there's very little that will be worth telling about, because most of it was bought in an old-fashioned store in the old-fashioned way.
But nonetheless, I will see what I can come up with to play along!
I voted for you too, but those Diaper people seem to have a campaign in full swing!! Come on, fellow Nesters, let's out-vote them!
Fun, fun, FUN! I'm in.
Great Idea. I'm in!
Sounds like you've struck a chord, Nester....a winning one!! I love this idea, too! What a fun party!
Suzanne
Struggler:
That is such a good point. Listen do not feel like you cannot participate if you paid retail. There is no shame in retail. I paid retail for my sofa and it was so worth every penny!
And yes, it takes TIME to redo stuff--If you redid something, feel free to tell us! I don't usually spend much time at all on anything.
This is not just for showing off our cheap deals I don't want anyone to feel like they cannot participate because they paid more than a quarter for something :}
I think it's a great idea and even though I don't know if I will do it (I'm such a chicken), I would LOVE to see everyone else's.
And I voted! I wonder why they have your blog title like that. Weird. : )
LOVE it! i'm so gonna do it. maybe lots of rooms. :) plus i need some inspiration for my kitchen. it's boring me..
like a few other commenters, i posted something like this a couple weeks ago:
http://ourhenryhome.blogspot.com/2009/06/dirt-cheap-entry-decor.html
i'm excited to do some more! definitely a reason to get things picked up! :)
AWESOME idea! I did a little price my space thing with my hubby a couple of nights ago. He had no idea I was so frugal!!
As SOON as I get my space more pulled together (I'm doing a Layla redesign!!), I'll be sure to participate!!!
Oh, and by the way, WHERE are those fabrics that you took the picture of the other day? Brand, location, etc? I love those!!
Fabulous idea! Count me in :)
I LOVE the idea and hope to be able to play along. We will only be in our new home a few days though so not sue if I will have one completed room by then or not. I will certainly try so I can play along! Also went and voted for ya! Off to buy fab for some new mistreatments! Thanx for so much inspiration! It makes moving exciting and less stressful.
I think it's a great idea! When my daughter separated from her husband, we had to get her into a place fast. I went into our local Salvation Army store and found out they were moving to another location and all the furniture was half price! With the furniture finds there and yard sale bargains, we did the living room for about $75! Curtains, rugs, everything! I was so proud!
I doubt you need my confirmation at this point, but I think it's a very unique idea to price an entire room, rather than piece by piece as you commonly see on blogs.
I've always found your linky parties an inspiration to complete a room. Thanks once again for the slight kick. :)
I'm going to flaunt my lowest price yet most unique space. :)
Donna
I think this is a grrreat idea! I'm always curious about others' deals and how they scored them. But I did just move into our FIRST house....so I have nothing done. It just might give me some incentive though!
Excellent idea ... count me in!
Jane
I love this idea! Mainly because I always wonder if their rooms are out of my budget range...lol! My only problem is that my rooms aren't done because we do one thing at a time when the money allows...sigh. I will enjoy this linky party though! Great idea!
I think this is a great idea! I have a problem in that I always feel compelled to tell people how much I paid for things when they comment on them. I want people to know that you don't have to spend a fortune to create a beautiful space!
I love the idea, silly! I can't wait to play along...our leather sofas were a steal, and I have a bunch of Goodwill treasures in the house. :o)
Fun1
Cool beans! I'm in...!
: )
Julie M.
Cool beans! I'm in...!
: )
Julie M.
I think it's a fabulous idea!
i think it's a great idea, but mainly b/c i always brag about the great deals i always seem to find. but i do think it makes me a big nerd.
I love the idea and I am not just saying that!
Ps. Love your blog!
Love, Madison
I have NO problem sharing my bargain finds! Like some others said, it's a problem of mine also and I've been working on a simple response to compliments such as "thank you". :) Count me in!
Great idea! Can't wait to see what I should be saving to make a great space. And, I'd vote for you as the blog I've learned the most from, but I'm kinda mad at you for not sharing about your FANtastic blue armoire yet!! Just kidding! I hope you finally win something!!!
Thank you, Nester - my 'retail' purchases and I will be happy to join the party and hopefully we won't be the awkward guest in the corner :)
I don't know how much you spent, but I sure would buy it!
I think it is a fabulous idea!! I am totally willing to let people know when I get a great bargain. I thought most thrift-ers are thrilled to share their finds, aren't they?
Oh, and congrats on being nominated. You've got my vote, your blog has literally changed my life! Love it!
I think this is a fantastic idea!! And I'm hoping you'll be back to making tassels soon?? I desperately want one!
I'm totally on board. I'll spill the beans, if you will!
~Amanda
ok, I went to vote for you on the blog I learned the most from but I don't see yours there...how am I missing it?
ignore me....there is a scroll bar - novel idea. I found it. :)
I love this idea! I like hearing about deals other people have found and trying to use the ideas I like the best. Now, when people "brag" about how much they've spent? That's a different story altogether.
I think this is a great idea. I'd love to show off some of my frugal finds.
This is practically how I drag people around my house and show all my deals if you visit in person. I'll try to limit myself to one room for your party : )
You are as great with ideas as you are with the fabric!
No need for sweating! I'd love to kiss and tell. I think it's a great idea. I'm not a blogger but I've been stalking your site for several months now and just can't get enough. I might try to join this party. I want people to know that you don't have to pay full price for many things at all.
I would love to see what people spend and how they make their homes cute but thrifty! My husband and I just bought our first house and I am dying to decorate it... but on a budget! Love your blog!
Fantabulous idea. I'll totally do it!!
I LOVE telling people how CHEAP I am......wait...I mean Frugal! My friend and I have decided to stop telling EVERYBODY how much something cost us when they compliment it.So now we just tell each other....you know how it goes. " I love that shirt" ...Oh My Gosh , I know...I got it for like $3 bucks on clearance!!"
But I always want to know every detail about other peoples stuf...Where did you get it...How much was it...di it come in other colors...how did you feel when you first saw it :0)
So I happen to think this is a wonderlous idea!
What a great idea. I can't wait!
XOXO
Jen
Now this will be INTERESTING!!!! I'd be tuning in...Janell
I think it's a good idea, because we girls love to find a great deal. I try to put where I find things in a post but have not listed the prices. hhhuuummm, cause not everything I get is on sale and my hubby reads my blog. Oh well. He doesn't read yours so maybe I can participate.
How did you place the numbers on your photo?
Through Photoshop???? I have it and don't know how to use it yet. I'm waiting for a free 5 minutes, hour, whatver.
From another blogger that decorates on a budget using curb finds and such - I love this idea and would definitely participate as well! I think it would provide lots of inspiration in blogland!
My very first post, there haven't been many, was one to show my living room and the great deals and prices I paid for them. I love the idea.
I think it sounds like a good idea, although I don't have much of a crazy-mad deal on anything in my house!
I'd love to see everyone else's thrifty finds. :)
No! Actually I was thinking, "I've been planning to do a post like that for forever, why didn't *I* think of doing a little carnival for it!?" Genius idea.
Cannot wait! So fun!
I know I'm a little late responding, but I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea!!! My husband & I just bought our first home. We haven't been married that long, so the whole decorating thing is JUST starting. I know what I like & don't like...but I just can't seem to put things together! I'm very much a visual person, so this will help me so very much!!!
Sadly, I think voting has ended.
Can't wait to check out everyone who links up!!
Hi! I love your Price My Space idea and have posted about it on my blog and added your cute button there. Hopefully many of us will participate. You even reminded me I have a Photobucket account, and I'll have to take a nice picture of my room. Can it be any room? Or did I miss the details?
I just came across this... good idea! Will you be doing another one of these in the future? I could share my guest room and kitchen! :-D
I'm a day late--but I just posted anyway! :) What a great idea! :)
