You are right: a 5-year-old sofa in mint condition would be so very much worse.
We love things to look pretty, but deep down we long for things to be well with our souls. And a pretty-looking-but-unused sofa isn't the furniture of a body that houses a healthy soul.

Girl, I love those tassels. I have a feeling they will be flying out of that warehouse as quickly as you can make them. Of course, if I was rich I would adopt them all and bring them to live at my house.
As for the sofa, I can now testify first-hand that it rocks, frayed edges and all (which, by the way, I did not even notice.) I read your incourage post and loved it, especially since I've been stressin' about my own well-loved furniture.

I read your post last night. Loved it! I was so inspired by the (in)courage site. I received my first nasty "anon" comment on my blog the other day, but the whole concept behind (in)courage truly helped me turn the situation around. I wrote a little post about it and linked up to (in)courage this morning. The t-shirt is super-cute, but it's the encouragement I am really excited about! :)

I love you. Seriously. I just created two things in my house that I absolutely adore and it is all thanks to you. I just started going at it and in the past I would have been so worried about the 'rules' that I never would have started. The first thing is a table scape/mirror combo in my entryway and the second is a glorious mistreatment above my sink. Who knew a crusty table of the curb, a raw edged remnant, five pushpins (because I'm not classy enough for upholstery tacks), and some crap the old homeowners left could make things so beautiful. You would probably know...because it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful.
My sofa is 20 years old!! IT sags, has hidden cheetoes under the cushions, has an abundance of stains on it, and has been used as the boys didn't feel good and couldn't make it to the bathroom!! I wouldn't trade it for the world--yet!! Loved this!

I want to order one of your tassels to hang in my newly decorated living room because you gave me the courage to paint my brick fireplace - the same brick firplace that I have looked at and hated for 22 years. It is now pretty (or a pretty as a plain brick fireplace can be) and white and I love it. Thank you.
A gorgeous house that CAN NOT BE REALLY LIVED IN is never as great as a cozy, warm, happy home where every corner is lived in. I think one of the nicest complements I ever received about my home was from a bathroom tile repair man who said "this home is beautiful, not just because of how it looks but because I can tell a family that loves each other LIVES here!"
I had my rugs cleaned 2 weeks ago. They were GROSS!!let me tell you. And we really tried to keep the dogs out of the den and all food in the kitchen,,,you know. But after a couple days of no one laying all over the den with the dogs and food watching Andy Griffith, I gave up. Love your sofa, Love (in)courage, and am PATIENTLY waiting for you to post a tour of your new rental....
