A Grateful Nest

At (in)courage today I'm asking "how have you found beauty and contentment in the place where you nest, right now", even if it isn't your dream home?

And, you can leave a comment while you are over there to enter to win a Grateful Nest tassel--{available to purchase here}.

Have I told you yet how these nest tassels are pretty much my favorite thing I've ever made? Lainie from (in)...{ let's call it (in) for short shall we?} gave me a poem called "Be Grateful" months and months ago and asked if I could somehow work it into a tassel.

Here are the words I've included from the poem:

Be Grateful

for good music, for dark chocolate,
for a place to call home, for warm hugs,
for quiet time, freedom to dream, for family time,
for understanding souls, for kindred spirits,
for true forgiveness, for sweet memories,
for pink bubblegum, for silliness, for red shoes,
for blue skies, for every breath,
for sunshine on your face, for a child's laughter,
for God's grace

--Bonnie Jensen
(c) 2009 incourage

And, the nest is surrounded by my signature ragamuffin scraps with little trinkets buried within the folds. Each tassel is unique and of course, has its own personality. Now get on over to (in) and win yourself one!

I have found beauty and contentment in my home simply because it is my home. It fits my taste and lifestyle, and I try to make the most out of my home's features. It is relaxing and inviting, and I am always glad to come home to it. It isn't perfect, but as a wise blogger once said, it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful. :)

I have found beauty and contentment by simply just sitting and enjoying my home with my family. Instead of constantly feeling the need to tidy something else up instead of enjoying their company. LOVE the tassel, I hope of win!

Living in a new little house in a new city has been a little difficult. But as I stop comparing my area to where I lived, I'm loving it more. Even though I can't fit even half my stuff in this little house, it works for us. And the more I drive around, the more familiar this is becoming so it feels more like home.

Losing my dad to Pancreatic Cancer suddenly when he was 59 made me realize what is important in life. Of course I want a beautiful home and I strive to make mine lovely, but now I appreciate all of the blessings in my life -- especially my family. I don't take anything for granted.

Have a beautiful day!

XOXO

I am so inspired by your post today. My husband and I just celebrated our 10 year anni. Through our marriage we have struggled with finances and loss of loved ones, moved cross country twice in hopes of making it better for our children and had two more along the way....We have ended up back in our tiny hometown of 2500 that we couldn't wait to get away from 8 years ago. And you know what we are so Grateful. We praise the Lord for His provision and the lessons that He taught us while we were in our wilderness. We are grateful for every oops in our check book that reminds us the He alone is our provider. We are grateful for every sniffle and subsequent healing to remind us that He alone is the Great Physician. And for those times when my children are upset that they are the new kids and have a hard time fitting in and talking to someone...I am truly Grateful that they know that they can talk to Jesus, their never failing, ever trust worthy friend.

I'm getting there. I just bought a little plaque, going to hang it somewhere prominent in the house. It says, "Bloom where GOD plants you". I'm trying!

What a lovely idea. I used to think things like that were silly.... who needs to be reminded? ME!! I find myself so attracted to sayings like that... always reminding me to be thankful. I think that is why I loooove Thanksgiving so much. We take what we have for granted way too much!! I even plan on adding a pillow to my bed that says: Always kiss me good night... just so my husband can remember!! ;0)

I really love this post. I have been trying to find happiness at whatever stage I am in, because sometimes I look forward to the 'next house' or the next stage of life etc.
I just try to think of all the wonderful things about where I am at now. Like my house is small enough that I can hear my kids playing (sometimes not a plus ;)), it's less to clean, and it's cozy. But what I love the most is that my kids are still little. And I know I am going to blink and they will be gone. So I am not going to wish away these precious days, even if I'm not in my 'dream house.' Because I am doing my dream job - staying at home with my kids. :)
Thanks for your wonderful blog - I love it.

I find contentment in my home by trying to be thankful and grateful for my husband and children-even when they do not do or act as I would choose. Avoiding a nagging, discontent spirit really effects the tone of our home for the better and sets the kind of atmosphere that makes us want to be here.

What a lovely post! My husband and I don't have much money for decorating right now, so I've been trying to make the condo pretty with things we already have.

I grateful we have our own home, even if it's not much.

I am grateful for blankets. I know ... that's a silly thing to be thankful for but I so look forward to snuggling under a blanket any my computer and read encouraging (in)couraging things like your blog.

I am also thankful for the perspective you have given me on enjoying my home. Just today I was trying to decide how to hang some new curtains (do I want to use rings, or sheer them on the rod or make ribbon tie tabs) and I thought of you. 'It's only curtains ... just do what you want to do, there's no right way.' I told myself.

I love the tassel. I have seen it on the website and hesitated to order one because I figured it would not look like the picture, but look, there are lots of them. Pick me. sewclaire@hotmail.com

I love anything you make, I don't know how you do it! I find it hard to create a space filled with contentment in a place where I personally feel is not my dream home. I try my best to surround myself with things that lift my spirits and encourage me...mostly re-doing favorite family photos or framing my child's art. Since times are hard I try to place the importance on making the most of what we have and living with in our means.

Thank you for your precious, spiritual reminder on thankfulness and what a home truly is. Five years ago we moved to the west coast. In the elevated, outrageous market we had to spend almost three times as much for 1,000 less sq. ft.

With six kids, it has been a challenge to fit into our home. In the struggle, I occasionally lose sight of these beautiful truths. Thank you for refocusing my heart and mind where it needs to be.

The decorated house without the Lord would be like a clanging symbol. Thank you for being true to Him.

I find content in odd places in my old house. I find contentment standing at the stove cooking, because that means my family will eat and not go hungry. I find contentment sitting in an old rocker, rocking the last baby we will ever have. I find contentment in the master bedroom as I listen to my husband snore. But I find the most contentment sitting on the back porch swing listening to the words, "Watch me Mommy!".

I really needed to read this tonight. We moved into this home last year as a sort of stepping stone into our dream home. It is a modest home, in need of some repairs and in a "spotty" neighborhood. Just as we started making improvments on this house and making it our own, we get word that dh's job may be in jepordy and maybe, just maybe we will have to move. I practically abandoned all decorating, nesting, improving.....everthing. I have fallen into a slump, feeling in limbo.........until I read this post. Thank you so much for those words.

I am grateful for a child who is in school today. I want to keep him all to myself, but he wants to be with his friends too. He has a terminal condition and we know his days are numbered. I am grateful that he loves life - in the midst of the pain.
