Use What You Have Christmas Decor

Hang a simple wreath from your curtain rod with a plethora of colored ribbons and ornaments.

Use your leftover trimmings around the house in different containers.

Group extra ornaments {I've got some broken ones I cannot part with that I pile in an apothecary jar}.

Shop the garage--red ribbon, red balls and some red accents turn ordinary things into instant porch decor.

Group your collections and then add in a splash of holiday with berries or greenery or tiny wrapped gifts.

Great ideas for using things we already have. It really does not take much to turn simple objects into holiday decor. All you need is a few greens and some ribbon.

"Using WHat I Have" is what Christmas is all about for me this year. Its funny all the stuff I wouldn't consider really Christmas like- look great and festive once pulled into a grouping.

You echoed my feelings for my decorating this year beautifully. We are on a budget and I know in my heart we have tons of Christmas stuff and we don't need new things. Best part is we are in a new rental and we know how you love decorating a new home with stuff you already own. It makes it more exciting to me to use all our old stuff :)

Love the colorful ribbons - I love that everything does not have to be green & red :)

I am LOVING that ribbon wreath! Gotta go find some stuff around here!

Great ideas! Love the colors in those first two pictures-it's a great reminder that using what you have is a beautiful way to go!

I find I'm always doing this. Sometimes I just have that extra filler piece of greenery that I just can't leave in the box and not use, so I stick it somewhere, even on top of a picture hanging on the wall.

That's my motto this year!

I love the idea of putting ornaments together in a container, I posted last week about putting them into a lantern I already had.

That's exactly why I buy tons of clearance ornaments in Januaury, I know I can always find something to put them in.

Great ideas. I can't wait to get home from our Thanksgiving holiday to decorate my home for Christmas. I am expecially inspired this year after reading so many creative blogs.

Did you see the show on HGTV yesterday afternoon about 25 ways to decorate for Christmas? I thought of you as I watched. :)

This is exactly what I did yesterday! I mentioned you on my blog when I posted my pics, even though you hadn't posted this yet. Just shows how I have been successful brainwashed/inspired into using what I have, (including stuff from my yard!) into something beautiful! :)

I'm going to try really hard to use only what I have. However, when I see something pretty and quite inexpensive, it's hard not to buy!!! Keep posting ideas Nester!

i love the idea of using what you already have, and using things that aren't necessarily holiday, but maybe are holiday colors, and grouping those together.
oh! i also used the 'branches' idea from your last post on my (humble) thanksgiving table - i clipped some long flowered branches from my backyard and used them for a pretty centerpiece! free and easy :) thanks!!

All so gorgeous ! I especially love the branches of greenery in everyday glass vases, and the grouping of silver... I'm going to do that for sure !

Love the photos. Great ideas. I have that exact green vase & I am going to attach little ornaments to it w/ ribbon. Looks like that is what they did too. Also, thanks so much for the tutorial for your tassels. Can't wait to make one!!

With all the extra mania that's been goin' on at my house this year (kitchen remodel- need I say more?) I'm feelin' the need to shop the house rather than brave the crowds this year.

Fab ideas, Ms. Nester!

Great looks, but my favorite was the festive ornaments hanging from the ribbons! I always use what I have and add a bit to it each year; it’s kinder on our environment. I’m looking forward to your holiday party; I just created Christmas mantle swag.

Such an inspiration! I am NOT going to wait until the last minute to do everything and stress out about the season. I started shopping early this year and did all my decorating in one day so I can spend the rest of the time relaxing, reading, baking.

We have a tiny little Christmas tree this year. And, the poor thing needed a scarf under it. My BF tossed a red satin cape from a superhero costume under the tree. Perfect!
