Junkin' with my Mom

My mom and I went thrifting together the other day. I made her drive. I say it's so I can tell here where to go but really, I hate driving. She doesn't mind so it works out just fine. Ain't she cute?

We found lots of stuff. And by we I mean I. It just wasn't her day. If you want to see the before you will have to scroll down to my last post but, here's where that white formica table went....

He was $7 and filthy. After many clorox wipes and the magic eraser he fits great in a little nook in the boy's room. And the two pair of plastic shutters that I found at the Habitat for Humanity Restore for $8 per pair are in my 10 year old's room. I love shutters indoors.

I'm still searching for the perfect use for these I have one on my armouire that I cannot spell and just have to be nonfancy and say TV cabinet . They were $4 @.

Your Mom looks like the nicest, most fun Mom ever, you're so lucky she is still with you...cherish these times you spend together!

And what a haul you made! I would be so jealous of you if you were a decorating diva but you're not, you're down to earth and share all your finds and fab ideas so how can anyone hate for your fab finds? I can't, I just keep coming back hoping some of your creative decorating mojo will rub off on me as I decorate vicariously through you, lol Keep those ideas coming you clever girl!
I seriously need to send you a picture of the hideous entertainment center.... LOL

I love the white formica Parsons table, so mod! We have a couple of these and they are so versatile, sturdy, and kid friendly. Like yours, ours are second hand so it's no big deal if they take a beating.

I love the cottage doors! I found 2 pair of those on the side of the road. Someone just 'tossed' them out, can you believe that?! I also found vintage plantation shutters which are huge. I think I paid $10 for the pair. They're affixed to my hallway wall. Quite the conversation piece. Love them.

Lovely stuff and you used it well!
I recently started a blog myself and I hope you don´t mind that I put your words of wisdom as a quote in my opening lines. You´re in good company though. Go check it out and if you don´t agree let me know and I´ll take it down. And one more thing. I have decided that I am only going to mention you once in every 10 posts I put up. My readers would find me very boring otherwise and besides they would start to realise that I haven´t got a single creative idea of my own!
Keep writing! I love it.
Greetings, A Dutch fan.

You found some good stuff and I LOVE shutters inside, too. I have some old ones that flank 2 large windows in my living room and also some smaller ones on each side of my Franklin stove. I am always on the watch for more!

I've seen suitcases stacked on a folding wooden luggage rack as a cute side table. What gret stuff! You've inspired me to go shopping right now!

Thanks for the inspiration. I may hit Goodwill today if my 5-year-old is not down with strep again! :(

Your Mom is beautiful!

I love your little nook there. Great finds, what an eye. I am so blind when it comes to these things. :)

Your mom is too cute. I love shopping with my mom and sister but we all seem to like the same things so we end up having to make hard decisions on who gets what. The good thing about it is when either of us gets tired of certain things we just pass it on to the other.
Those suitcases are really nice. They would look cute as a nightstand.

Aww, your mom is a cutie. Love all your finds especially the table. I'd probably have been grossed out and left it there but you had the forethought see it as it might be cleaned it up. Boy do I feel lazy now. What a great idea for a mom-daughter activity. I usually come over with the kids and we stay at their house or go out to play. I need to leave the kids with hubby and go out with my mom!

Awe, what a cutie. My favoriite past time is junken with my mom too. We have a ball. Love all the treasures. My favorite is the shutters. What a great addition to the room. I think you could add them to your list on mistreatments. Everyone needs creative ideas for their windows. I don't know but I feel a book brewing for you.

I wanted to let you know that I really love reading your blog! Thanks for all of the great ideas!

You gotta love Clorox Wipes and Magic Erasers, two things I swear have changed my life. Once I get going around the house looking for things to clean with them, it's hard to stop! -Julia :-)

Hey--did you know that WD-40 cleans stuff off too? It got baked-on-sticker-stuff of the inside of my brand-new dryer we haven't even had a week! I can always depend on my children for instant destruction, but I guess this one was my fault.
I'm impressed with the table--I would have passed it off as too unworthy to have admission in my house, but clearly you and formica tables are not to be underestimated.
You and your mom are cute little twins. So, does Emily look like a girl version of your dad?

Ok Nester...I'm going to be banned from your sight soon by my husband :0) I have posted a window mis-treatment and have highlighted my "junk" in another post..all in one day!

Armoire (remember? 4th grade spelling bee).

Thanks again for the cute tassle - you'll be seeing on a blog near you soon. ;)

I saw one of these on another blog. They used it in a bathroom, opened on a luggage rack. Toiletries were artfully arranged inside. It was quite pretty.

Love your mistreatments. I'm getting ready to do one as soon as I can find some fabric that I love...

You did so great! Luv, luv, luv everything you found...especially the suitcases. Why is it that every time I read your 'junking' posts, I get this urge to go junking too? As if I'm going to go to Goodwill and find the same suitcases? Oh well...I'll probably still go anyway! :o)

I think they would look great in your bedroom with all of the browns and blues. They would be just the thing to squirrel away stuff by your bed: tissues, books, hand lotion, etc.

Cute, cute, cute! Love the boys' new table, too. Formica- the surface of champions! LOL

I love clicking on your page even when there's nothing new to look at because I love this song. Of course, it's even better when you do post ;)

I love it all, but I have to say the suitcases are my favorite. I've been looking for some to stack for a coffee table.

Your mom is darling, but it's no surprise after seeing her beautiful daughter :)

Have a great day tomorrow!

I'm a lurker! But since you are now writing here and at Chic Critique (another blog I frequent) and you live in my favorite State of all time, I thought I would write and say hello. And to tell you that I love the way you decorate.

Also, I love the "idea" of Junkin', but I never seem to do it well. Is the secret to Junk often, or is it just a gift? You seem to find great stuff. I am amazed that you saw a dirty old table and a cage with junk on it, and turned them into such great pieces!

Have a great day!

Hey Nester,
I am glad to see what you did with all your treasures. I have some shutters that I got from a yard sale back in the summer still sitting on my carport waiting for something to do. Yeah, I am lazy and apparently like to look like white trash with my finds outside.
Anyway, loved you playroom. Would you mind sharing the size of your buckets?
Thanks!

Hi Nester! I just wanted to leave you a little comment. :) I came across your blog for the first time today...and ended up reading your "older posts" all the way back to the beginning. That's what happens with posts that catch my attention and are written by people that I think are fun or interesting or funny! I laughed audibly a couple of times as I was reading and got the eyebrow raise from my hubby who was in the room. ;) We have a lot in common....not the three kids part :)...but the loving to decorate on a budget, loving to cut coupons, those kind of things. I love your creative eye and enjoyed seeing all of your pictures full of decorating inspiration! My hubby and I are full time missionaries and we got married almost a year ago and purchased our first home a few months ago. Just the last couple of weeks I've been looking at fabric to make curtains and looking at pictures for inspiration. It was perfect timing for me to see some of your ideas! :) I look forward to checking back often to laugh at your stories and see more of your creative ideas! Thanks for sharing!
Amber
P.S. You *really* don't possibly look old enough to have a 10 year old. Really!
