All right y'all, I need your advice. I've had music on this blog off and on since I started it. I love music and have all types of music playing at home throughout the day. To me, it just sets a mood. However, I know that it might not have the same effect on a blog. I know some of you like the songs I've had. I'm sure some of you have hated them. I also wonder if it makes my blog take extra long for you to load. I mean, I already have a gazillion photos. So tell me what you think. I know this might not be a fair question because those of you who hate music on a blog so much gave up on me and are not even here to read this.
Should I have have music or not?
Music?

Yes, you should have music!!! I love listening to your music. In fact, sometimes after I've finished reading your blog I will leave it up just so I can listen to the rest of your songs. Some of the songs are old favorites of mine, others are new to me. I especially like the songs from "O Brother Where Art Thou?"
My vote is to keep those tunes playing!
I've never commented before....sorry. But I LOVE reading your blog. I love the music and opened today and kept wondering what was missing. It just adds so much character to your blog. I leave it open to listen, too.
I like the music, of course, I have music on my blog ( http://littlewhiteschoolhouse.blogspot.com/ ):) Anyway, my only piece of advice is to put the music on random play so the same song does not come up every time someone comes on your blog.
BTW, I love reading your blog!!!
I've gone back and forth on this same issue. I finally settled on putting the music player at the top of my blog, and setting it to NOT auto-play, so that visitors can turn it on, if they choose. I generally read blogs with sound turned off, and only turn it on if there's something I want to hear, so I am not bothered by it. Of course, I like the music on my blog, so I always turn it on! Ultimately, music does not keep me from visiting a blog, and sometimes enhances the experience.

Its your blog and I think if you want to have music then you should have music. If they don't want to listen to what you have on here all they have to do is hit pause or mute. :)
I am a web designer, and I have always tried to discourge my clients from putting music on their sites. Mostly because it takes away from the professionalism, and if people are visiting your site from work, it might turn them off from visiting your site. (Or if your visitor has their volume all the way up and a sleeping baby on thier lap...been there done that...)
That being said, since visiting your blog, I have frequently opened it up JUST for the music! Ask my boys, they love it too. It has been such a blessing to me. You could put a link at the top that targets your player so those who want to get all the way down there to turn off the music could. But please, oh please, leave the music there! :)
Yes keep the music!
Yes and no.
I like the music you pick, but I often check the blog at work, and if my speakers are on, I get funny looks :)
Would it be possible to set it up so those who want the music can turn it on themselves?
Love the music! And if I am reading after the girls are asleep and I need quiet- I keep mute on so it doesn't matter if I open up a blog with music.
I'm like several others- I often minimize the screen and let your music play after I finish reading
:-)
I stole the music player app from your blog, and added my own choices. :) But, I've also used some of the same songs you have on here. So, you should keep it! :) Like they said, if people don't want to listen to it, they can just mute it. Do what you want... and GO Dolly! (Love 9 to 5) :)
I agree with Valerie...its your blog and if you want music you should have it. Im not huge into most music. Im VERY selective (only like contemp.christian or praise and worship) HOWEVER this does NOT affect me loving your blog to pieces...I just turn it down or off by my speaker. No biggy at all.

I would absolutely not have music, unless it is some type of player that plays only when it is clicked.
I can't tell you how many times I have been nursing a baby to sleep, clicking around on the internet at 2 am, only to stop at a site which blares a hymn loud enough to wake the house.
As a result I generally quit visiting any blog with music. You're the exception, friend!
I know I can set the volume on my computer, but accidents happen when multiple people share 1 computer.
Just my opinion!
I just discovered your site and am loving it! We are purchasing our first home so the timing couldn't be better. I like the music you've chosen. For me personally, it can be a little distracting while I'm reading (particularly when my toddler is making her own music in the background) so I just turn it down. Thanks for sharing your ideas...
Love the music. I sang I'll Fly Away in my head for a week after first discovering your blog. Love it!!
LOOOOOOOOVE the music! I was so happy to finally learn the name of a great band whose name I never knew- Six Pence None the Richer. I would always hear the songs and never knew, but because of your awesome site and it's awesome music... And who isn't singing 9 to 5 at the top of their lungs when it comes on? I know I am!
I love the music! Sometimes I keep your blog open in the background so the music plays while I'm looking at other sites.
Kim
Okay. You asked. I really dislike music on blogs. I tend to open several blog windows at the same time, and the music is....um...annoying. Sorry! That being said, it's YOUR blog, and you do whatever you want to do. When I visit certain blogs, I just turn the volume down. It's a preference. Some people like it, some people don't. Personal blogs are meant to be a reflection of ourselves, and perhaps music is just that for you! Good luck with your decision!
I don't mind music as long as it doesn't turn on all by itself. That bugs me, and it makes me jump!
It actually used to crash my computer so I had to stop visiting and just read through my reader. I think not having it would be erring on the side of caution and that having it could be keeping you from having people visit and participate.
I like the idea of having the music at the top. I normally read my blogs in Google Reader so I don't even hear the music unless I pull the page up on it's own. Personally I don't like music because my speakers are usually turned up really high and I have to scramble to turn it down. I wouldn't stop reading someone's blog because they have music though. Love your blog :).
I usually turn the volume off when I am reading blogs. Lots of people have music and for me personally, it gets in my way...I can't read and listen to music at the same time but I'm just weird that way!
It's your blog and if you like the music, then keep it on.
Love your blog and visit daily. I prefer no music, when the kids or someone else has used my computer and left the sound on then I use it, it is annoying to get a jolt of music especialy if the baby is sleeping. I vote for have a switch for vistors to turn on if they wish.
I hate the music. Sorry! I don't like having to scroll all the way down to the bottom of a page or sidebar to turn it off. Usually I just quit reading! Now, I read almost all blogs using Bloglines anyway so I guess it doesn't affect me, but I still vote no!
My vote is to set it up so if people want the music they can turn it on. You can do that and it will have a large play symbol over the playlist box. That is what I did on our family blog so I get the best of both worlds.
I love you Nester. This is my first comment. Love your blog.
Hilarious that you have this song playing for this post. (Hallelujah- Zachariah). :)
Just wanted to put my vote in for "no" on the music too. I hate to be clicking late at night to be blasted in the quiet when I click on someone's blog.
I think that the music adds a personal touch, but I also sometimes have to turn it off if I opend a whole bunch od windows and have decided to save your for reading last. It can be a distraction for that reason only to me. I too, have opened up your blog so that I can listen as I am working.
By the way, I was wondering, did I missed who won the framed nest at Blissfully Domestic?
I think music is such a great mood setter, especially when combined with photos. And I think it's up to the blog publisher, aka you, to decide which way it goes while I do appreciate you asking us for our input. I always make sure my speakers are off when it needs to be quiet (drives my husband nuts, but I think it makes more sense to go from off to on when you need it than scrambling to turn them off when you are surprised by noise when you didn't expect it). So, after my book...I love your music! I am not a real fan of you having your music player all the way at the bottom (but I understand that is to preserve your page's appearance and can respect that). So, long story (literally :) short - I vote yes. Since Dolly was the feature picture...have you heard her one about rockin' chairs and rockin' babies...so sweet....but I digress
Katherine, so glad that you caught that! That makes me so happy!
"you don't really care for music do ya"--isn't that perfect for this post?
Allrighty people, keep it comming! I think I know what I'm gonna do but I still want to know what YOU think!
since you asked...
i personally have loved the music on your blog BUT i can't read and listen at the same time and honestly sometimes if my speakers are turned up it scares me to death!
i'm a pretty good multitasker just not with reading!
Okay, shut up already...I know. I forgot to mention that it doesn't seem to affect load time on your page.
I usually keep my sound off or check blogs on bloglines so there is no music. If I can't sleep at night and want to surf blogs and I forget to check sound it does kind of startle me!
Keep it if you want to I really don't mind turning the sound down!
Heck to the NO. I don't like music on blogs. The one you have right now (Hallelua) happens to be one of my favorites, but I usually have my own music or TV on when I read blogs. Or I'm at work and the music? It's a dead giveaway that I ain't working.
Love you Nester, love your blog, love the choices of music you use IF I were just listening to music but HATE music on a blog. I agree with the things the other commenters said though. I would never stop coming here because you have music and it IS your blog. I just scroll down, turn it off and continue on my merry way. Thanks for asking though. :)
I shouldn't but I do check the blog while at work......music is not a good thing for me for this reason. And, when other blogs have it, I usually prefer to turn off their music, as I have my own playing. That being said, I think you should have what YOU like on your blog, perhaps just allow the reader/listener to play if they want to, rather than autoplay.
But.......if not, I'm okay with turning it off, maybe just keep convenient at the top of the blog.
Nester...I found your blog about a month ago through a friend and it's now my very favorite! I have made your chalkboard, flip-flops and I'm now painting my kitchen cabinets...need I say more? I'm hooked!! About the music...maybe this TRUE story of last weekend will tell it best: My office (where the computer is) is directly below my bathroom. I went to take a shower and needed good music. So, I tell you no lie - I emptied my laundry chute that goes to down to my office from the bathroom, and I jimmied the door so it would stay open. I found your blog and CRANCKED UP the volume so I could hear the tunes throught the chute and into the bathroom. I have never done that before. A lovely shower it was.
Love ya girlfriend!

I have mixed feelings on this. I actually don't mind music on blogs, and sometimes you have some great choices (like last week when I was so excited to hear 9 to 5, or Allison Kraus, and others). Usually, I have my speakers turned off so I don't even hear it. Sometimes it's kind of a nice surprise when I do actually have the sound on. But sometimes it's not so nice when my kids have left the volume way up and it kind of startles me when I click on and get blasted by music I wasn't expecting. I do think it makes your blog load a little slower. But it certainly won't stop me from coming to visit. I did read on Tip Junkie last week an interview with some bloggy experts saying that they did a survey or something and most people DON'T like music. But you should do whatever makes you happy! It's not like the Nester groupies are going to stop stalking you or something.
Inamom! that is so funny! I think you are a genius!
Mrs. B--hear you loud and clear along with everyone.
I never even thought about sleeping babies!
I've never noticed a slower load time on your site b/c of the music. I love your music actually. I went out and bought the CD w/ that Allison Krauss song on it just from hearing it on your blog. I always turn my volume down when I get on-line, just b/c some people have some crazy songs on their blogs, but when I get to yours I always turn it up:)
I've enjoyed your music. I like blog music b/c I usually find (or rediscover) a song or artist that I like. Maybe move the controller to the top so it can be paused if needed? I know when I open a lot of windows it sometimes takes a while to figure out which one- or two!- is playing music.
I think you should keep it. It's nice.
First, the Zachariah song made me laugh.
I'm generally not a huge fan of music on blogs, mostly because I'm multi-tasking and it makes it chaotic sometimes. However, I LOVE your music!
I love the music and think it should stay. I particularly enjoyed the Rosemary Clooney song. I like the new selections, too.
Definitely keep the music. I have music on my blog as well and I think it's always nice to hear what other people like.
I like the idea of having a choice at the top. I usually turn the music down so I can focus on the reading.
I haven't commented on here before (I love the blog by the way!!), but do want to weigh in on the music issue. I read several blogs and many of them have music. When I have a bunch of windows open at once and all of the different music is playing it sounds really bad. So I have to either mute everything, or shut a bunch of windows and leave open only what I want to hear. I think that the idea of music is great. But I think that the person looking at the blog should be able to pick to play it. So keep it on there, just don't have it set to automatically play when someone opens up the window. I think it is a good compromise. Have a great week!
Well.. here is what I do. If I don't want to hear music, I turn off my sound before I go blog-hopping. I also have headphones I wear while working and occasionally like today, I will forget about the music and I will quickly get jolted from my chair.
However, I like the music. I like seeing everyone's choices and how it fits into their personalities.
My vote..keep the music... We all need a jolt now and then..who knows where it might take us.
I don't like the music that automatically comes on but I do love the option of listening to what other's do when I visit their blog.
I've been reading for several months now and am always happily surprised when you have the music application playing! It is fun to hear what's playing in the brilliant and creative mind of the Nester! I DO see what some folks are saying about sleeping babies, however my little one sleeps like a log so she snores away in my arms while I check out your projects. I change my own music for every post, so I'm a bit skewed!
I love your blog (so pretty!) but I read your posts from a plain-text RSS feed to avoid the music. Music is a gift from God, but I can't listen to it and read at the same time!
I really enjoy the music and pics! It gives me warm fuzzys!
Hello, Nester, I'm Heathalee's older-but not wiser- sister and I think this is my first comment on your blog.
I love your music. In fact, a couple of months ago I kept your blog music going while I painted my back entry way. It kept me energized.
However, there are times that I don't want to listen to music while I'm reading blogs, so what I do is just find my wee bitty sound icon at the bottom of my computer screen, click the wee bitty mute button and wa-la - no sound. It never takes me more than five seconds to fix that.
So, I think you should keep the music. Maybe move the little player-thingy up so people can pause it if they want to, but keep your happy, energizing music. I may need it when I start painting my living room!
I would like the option to turn on the music.... I usually turn the volume right down when visiting this blog. The choices are usually good... but sometimes I just want silence.
Please keep the music. Some of it I have never heard but I love it all.
Blanca
I think it's fine if you like it there--heck, it's your blog. But I have to admit I press the mute button on my laptop every time I visit yours or your sister's site. Not because I don't like the music, just because it disrupts my reading.
Keep the music playing! I just love it! I have been trying to find out what the songs are called but cant seem to find the info on your blog. Is it located on your blog somewhere? Look for to more! Julie
I'm new here. :)
LOVE.the.music.
Please keep it. :) God bless.
I like it - I have music on my blog. But I also tend to keep the sound turned off on my laptop by default. Also, I use Google reader to keep up with blogs, so the music thing doesn't really affect me a lot.
But I discovered Iz's Somewhere Over the Rainbow on your sister's blog. Love that song.
looks like i'm outnumbered but even if i love the music that is playing i always turn it off when i am on the internet. i keep my volume down on my laptop but if i use the other computer and the music comes through when i open your blog, i immediately turn it off. why do i do that? because i can't concentrate on reading when there is music playing. not everyone is like this though. my husband types his sunday school lesson with music going.
I love music too but it distracts me when I'm trying to concentrate on a blog, so I turn the volume off when I load a blog with music.
I love the music and have it on my own blog. People who generally read your blog know in advance to turn the volume down if it should be a problem. I can relate to the moms with babies though, some times we are so sleep deprived we forget. Maybe move your player to the top so the mute button is in easy access and they don't have to hunt for it.
I too love your music and gosh darnit still havent been able to add any to my blog (even with my brilliant husbands help)! We must be rather dense. I'm not sure if you remember but you already wrote me to try to teach me how - seemed quite common sense but - didnt work. Oh well. But, yes, your music gets stuck in my head in a good way, its great.
KEEP THE MUSIC. Your blog is the first one I read and then I minimize so I can still listen.
I am new to your blog and I love it.
I love music, I have it on my blog. The player has a mute button for those who prefer to not listen. Go for it!
I'm another user of Google Reader, so I am not usually aware of blog music unless I go to the site itself. My personal opinion is that this is your blog. If the music brings you joy, why wouldn't you leave it?
Keep the music.. love your choices too! If those up during the night or for whatever reason don't like the music.. they should just leave the mute on their speakers! Problem solved! :) THese are blogs and fun to personalize to OUR likes! God bless..
Music!
Music!
Music!
It's really the only way to go.
I have music on my blog & it's more for me than anyone else.
This is how I look at it, there is a volume/mute button, for those who aren't inclined for music they can hit that.
So you go sister!
Bring on the tunes
Music is wonderful but I am often already listening to my iPod while reading blogs. Sometimes if I am reading late at night it is a little startling for the music to begin unexpectedly when the house is silent. Is it possible to make it optional? I love to see what others are listening to and get ideas for new music to check out.
I love music and love being introduced to new songs or reminded of old favorites but I also find the music distracting. I can't focus very well on what I'm reading with the music playing and because I take advantage of nursing time to check my favorite blogs, my baby has been blasted awake a time or two. So I try to remember to mute. Most often when I visit your site I have your music muted, but will occasionally listen to your playlist - and aren't you clever including the song Hallelujah, with the phrase, "...but you don't really care for music, do ya? :-)
(BTW, your sis Emily's playlist introduced me to Ben Fold's song, Gracie, which I promptly ordered and put to a slideshow for my own sweet Gracie-girl. She loves watching that.)
Anyway, my vote is keep the playlist but make it optional to listen.
Nester,
You Rock music or no music, but personally I like your music. And sometimes when I need quiet I just turn it off ~~ now that was easy.
Love your blog,
You are a genius girlfriend ~~ keep on doin' what your doin'
Dawn
I say, "nay" to the music.
I always make sure my speaker is off before I click on your site for that reason. Or else I avoid it. Just my 2 cents as it is your blog to do with it as you will. :)
Hi.. I love your music, but always keep the volume off on my laptop!
(Only because I have still to put misTreatments on my windows and my house echos BAD.)
It is so easy (for those of us who prefer not to listen) to turn it off/down, that I say why not leave it up and people can do what they want with it!~!
It would never impact whether I read a blog, and does not take longer to load (that I notice!)
Love your blog and wished you lived closer so you can help me with my house:(
Doesn't load slow for me.
Like music and have it on my blog.
Music choice speaks volumes about someone's personality, so for me music on a blog helps me to get a quick insight into the blog's author.
When Rosemary Clooney's voice came out of my speakers one morning as I came for a visit, I knew I realy loved you. :)
Okay, I have another comment!!! I posted onec before on a broken link.
You are going to think I am like a link stalker or something, or that I test websites as my line of work.. honestly I don't... BUT i just happened to try the hobby lobby link (in my search for the misTreatment fabric) and see you have two http's there!!!! I don't know if you get 'credit' if people use your links to get places... but I know how easy it is to fix the link, so I thought you'd wannna know.
This just shows how dependent I am on your every idea!!!! Write more !!!
You already have plenty of food for thought here, but I thought I'd add my crumbs. I typically hate music on a blog, but I LOVE your music. Like others have said, sometimes I'll leave your (fabulous) blog on just to listen to your awesome songs.
So there it is...
I don't think it makes the page load slowly at all...
I like the music. If I want quiet or am not in the mood for music, I will turn off my computer speakers!
:)
I like the music, however, it does take longer to load pages with music than those without. It doesn't bother me but it may bother some people.
Okay I just put Music on my blog because I love yours! Now I never realized you had music because I check often at work and have no speakers. That said if I had speakers at work I couldn't be under the radar while reading it.
Anyways! Keep it please! It like it lots!
Love your blog, but HATE the music. Well, not the music itself but I hate any sites that automatically play music and most of the time won't visit them (you are a very rare and infrequent exception).
Scrolling down to the bottom takes awhile and in the meantime it's either loud or it's clashing with music I've already got playing.
I like it when sites have opt-in music like http://makinghome.blogspot.com/ because then it's her choice in music, but my choice to listen or not.
It is your blog and you can do whatever you prefer, but I definitely prefer blogs that have it to opt-in rather than default to start playing
Sheila
I don't like music on blogs very often. Usually the only time I do like music is if it has no words. For example, I visited a blog that had Canon playing- love that music- and it was soothing and set the mood of the blog. However, when I visit blogs that have music with words I find it distracting because I'm trying to read and listen to words at the same time and I'm too old for that kind of stuff any more. For example, Dolly is playing 9-5 on your blog as I type this and it's distracting me so I turned my speakers off.
That said, you have an awesome blog and I'd visit even if it was playing John Phillips Sousa very loudly.
I am with some of the others. I would like it at the top so we could easily turn it off. I actually like the music but I only get to check you out when my toddler is asleep (my guilty pleasure), so it would be nice if I could easily turn it off to keep him asleep.
Nester, I love your blog and I love your music! I say keep it.
I'm guessing I'm in the minority, but I vote against the music -- I love the songs but when I'm reading, I find them distracting, especially the ones to which I know the words. I find I start singing them and lose the whole tone of the post. I mute them more often than not or pause, which only works if I don't forward to another page. Just my humble opinion, though.
I just mute my speakers if I'm not in the mood. Always remember to match your music to the mood you want to set for your blog. I'm not sure the Dolly song seems to jive with your persona. But I like it! Lol.
Oh, phooey, if I'm not going to say something nice, I shouldn't say anything at all.
Let me start again.
If you like the music, put it on--no matter what it sounds like. If someone doesn't like it, she'll mute her speakers. Be yourself!
Btw, I love the Hallelujah song. And I love your blog!
Lose the music!
I'm another reader that likes your music and listen even after I'm done reading, BUT almost always read my favorite girl blogs (like yours!!) while nursing and holding my sleeping baby. I vote for a button to click like others...since you asked!
I just bought two songs that I heard on your blog from i-tunes yesterday. I love, love your taste in music and I think it adds to the beauty of your beautiful blog.
The music ie nice. My only problem is the advertisment stuff. I have been flooded with emails now. Sometimes the same company sends 5 in one day. It's getting a bit crazy. I guess they get our emails from the blogs we read. Not really sure. Dove soap is driving me crazy! I guess it's the price I will have to pay tp read up on my blogs. I wonder if there is something we could do to stop or slow it down a bit. Everyday more and more blogs are turning towards this. Sorry for the preachin' . Love your blog :). Cant start my day without it. Susie H
i'm always nursing my baby when i'm on the computer and i hate it when i go to a blog and the music comes blaring on! so please no music - although that wouldn't keep me away from you!
music on blogs....do I like it? Nope, not so much. If it's a song I love, I will wait til it's over to read.......can't read and listen to music.....way too distracting. It's the first thing I usually do......turn a person's music off. Sorry....but it's your blog.
Funny you should ask this question. I was debating on losing the music on my blog as well! It takes forever for the page to load with music. And if my own page annoys ME, I wonder how many other people are annoyed. Ya know? After reading all your comments, I'm totally ditching it. Thanks for doing all the legwork for me. lol
I don't care for the music...I mean I like your choices but just don't like blogs that have music. Takes too long to load and I always turn off the sound when I visit anyway. Thanks for asking our advice!
Well, I always have the sound turned off when I visit blogs. Manys the time I've jumped when some song blares out at me and I can't take that much excitement, LOL. But when I notice a blog has music, I'll turn it on and take a listen. For me it's an opportunity to hear new stuff, for instance, that Corrine Bailey Rae song you've had is great and I'd never knowingly heard anything by her before. So, in short, I do take note of what folks are playing and decide to listen occasionally. Sometimes I can't concentrate on reading and the music together, so I turn off the sound. No biggie.
If you didn't have it, we all get along fine. I'd say do it for you.
I love your blog and am gearing up to redo some bedroom drapes thanks to your fearlessness.
MLS
I love listening to your music! In fact...I added music to my blog after hearing it on your blog! It doesn't take long to load at all! Maybe you could have the music there, but not play unless the readers hit the 'play' button!
Pamela
Thank you for asking! Please, please, please do not put music on auto play, but allow readers to make that choice. It is particularly annoying with tabbed browsing and in places where a computer needs to be quiet - and that happens in many situations other than work. Often I turn on sound, but forget to turn it off, and I'm sure others do as well. I also agree with the commenter who said it is unprofessional. And the larger your readership grows, the more of an issue it will become. I know people who stop visiting certain blogs because of this issue. Allowing readers to choose means everyone can be happy. (Another pet peeve is that bloggers sometimes do not optimize photos for web viewing so that they download quickly.)
Lest this sound negative, I need to say how much I love your blog and your practical perspective. I also like your music choices, for that matter. :-)
Marty
I love your music! So much that I've gone to itunes and searched for some of the same songs for my playlist....please don't get rid of the music. It sets the mood.
I love your blog and the music is a plus. I recently went through & cleaned out a lot of blogs out of my favorite list because I was spending more time reading than dealing with things here at home. Yours was one that I refused to delete. Keep up the excellent work!
I'll tell you the truth - I really can't read with music, for me it's distracting. But I'm probably the minority and I can always hit the pause button! And I'm sure others like me can do the same.
Now saying all that {and to prove how contradicting I am} - I do have music on my website {not my blog} and I asked everyone too how they felt about it - and they loved it! Sooo, I kept the music.
Good luck with that decision making!
I love music and I do think that it sets the mood. I vote for music, but it might be a problem for people with slower computers. So it might be best to have the option to turn it on. SO you won't loose any visitors.
Thanks for asking!
I say keep it on ... if we don't want to hear it, we can turn our volume down. :-)
I love music on people's blogs but have to turn it down when I'm trying to read. But I do think, it's YOUR blog and you should do what YOU want :) Hope you had a Happy Mother's Day Nester!
Nester-
I love the music!
Never heard of Corinne Bailey Rae 'til you! Now me and my 5 yr. old daughter are all "giiiirl put your records oooooon"!
You just need to add some David Crowder Band :)
Jenifer
KEEP THE MUSIC!!! It doesn't take too long for your page to load, and people can just mute it if it becomes distracting to them.
just my 2 cents worth! =)
and I love your blog ... you have inspired me in SO many ways! I made your 'ragamuffin garland' last week for my bathroom remodel and it looks fantastic. If you are interested I would need to invite you to view my blog so let me know.
Blessings, Kathy =)
I don't even have the sound on my computer turned on. I can't hear it anyway if my kids are up running around like little crazies. But whenever I visit your site and the kids are in bed, I turn the volume up just to hear your tunes. And it doesn't seem to slow down your blog enough to notice. So for what it's worth, I say keep it!
First......LOVE your blog!
Well it does look like with music is the majority choice. Some music I like, some I don't but it does share a bit more of the personality of the blogger. It does play havoc occasionally with my computer or interfer with the music usually playing already on my computer.
Actually I'm on the fence with the issue. If I don't like it I'll turn it off. That being said, I don't like to have to search to turn it off with a blogger's player if I'm listening to my own music.
The one thing I do find annoying is if a blogger includes a lot of links with their blog or post, the first song plays over and over again with each click back. I don't like that broken record effect.
I read your blog all the time, but I have never commented. I love the music!!! I would miss it if it was gone.
Yes, keep it! We love the music and also minimize it to keep listening. We also mute, if we need to.
The music calms my baby down when I rock her to sleep!! (Laptop is next to the rocker on end table.)
I don't like music on blogs or other websites I visit because usually I'm surfing while I'm feeding my baby and putting her to sleep (it's the only time I get to do that) when I forget to turn my speakers off and I open a page with music on it often startles her awake and makes me have to start all over again.
I'd love it if you had music that I could turn on if I wanted it and leave off if I wanted too.
I love your site and I'll keep coming back even if you keep the tunes a playing!
Please keep the tunes! Many of my itunes purchases are from little ditties I've heard on blogs. I can't stand radio if it's not npr, so I never hear music if it's not on the computer.
LEAVE IT. Anyone who doesn't like it can turn it off. On my blog I love finding music for different posts. How can we mistreat our windows without musical inspiration?!! Love your blog the way it is. Love those snarky remarks mixed in with your sincerity! Nancy
I always mute it too....although I usually like the songs you have its too distracting for me :)
I keep my volume turned very low and if I hear a song I like, I have the choice to turn it up.
I love the music on blogs...
bj
De-lurking here because music on blogs is one of my pet peeves. If I go to a blog for the first time and music comes blaring out at me (especially at work), I never visit that blog again. I wouldn't mind it if it weren't on auto-play. Why did I come back here, you ask? Well, my speakers were broken when I first started visiting your site. By the time they were fixed, I was hooked and I also knew to turn them off.
I haven't noticed your site loading slowly with the music.
That being said- I don't really care for music on sites. I usually have about 5-10 pages open at a time, so I keep my speakers turned down, otherwise I have a huge jumbled up mess of a noise.
But it's your site, so do what you want! I don't think anyone wouldn't visit because there's music on. We all have the ability to turn it down. :)
Love your page btw... I just mistreated a window today and it looks awesome and was sooooo easy! THANK YOU for the idea.
I had to post again, sorry!
I just added a playlist to my blog...you inspire me, what can I say?
I hate music on blogs. I'm usually watching TV while I surf and find music annoying. I turn my sound off, but sometimes I forget and hate it when it just comes on, especially if the volume is turned up. I would vote for the option to turn it on if the reader wants. It's your blog though, so do what you want. I can keep turning off the volume, because by golly I am visiting you!
I love your music and have even copied some of your songs on my own blog! If people don't like it, they can turn the volume down.
Oh my goodness! Do what you like. It is your blog and an expression of you....including music or no music. The people who don't want to hear it can always turn the sound down on their computers. If you like the music, then keep it.
I love your blog but do end up muting my computer when I come here to avoid the music. Usually my hubbie is trying to watch TV or work and the music is a distraction. However, this is your blog and you do what you want to do!!!
I'm a music-on-blogs hater but your blog is the only one that I actually like it! You pick the best songs...just a suggestion....keep it random so that it doesn't play the same song every time we re-visit it. Random play is much better. Love your blog...I've just recently stumbled upon it. =0)
I love it. The one that reminds me of your blog the most is the 3 litt-uhl birds...(Put Your Records On) because that was the one playing when I first discovered your blog and I was visiting every second trying to figure out window mistreatments =) I really like your song choices too...
I like music because I can set the mood with my posts. But I also set it at "random" other days so that I can add my mix and do what I want with it. I love Project Playlist because it doesn't slow my blog down. Other programs have. :)Just my .02 worth.
Oh, my goodness! Did you know you'd get so many responses? My turn! While I think you should keep the music, I would put it close to the top and have it where we could choose to turn it on. I don't know if anyone has mentioned this or not, but sometimes I pull up my iTunes and listen to it while I'm at the computer, and if I pause your player every time I go to another page I have to re-pause it. Please DON'T take it off, just let readers decide if they want it on or not. There's my two cent's worth!
Yeah, you should have music..... ;)
Gangsta rap! *lol* oh no, that's just me..
I mean.. of course you should have music. Most of those playlist thingies (try playlist.com) don't actually put the music ON the page, therefor it takes no extra time to load.. even with the pictures, the site loads pretty fast up here..
I mean, come on.. the days of the 56k modem are over ;)
Greetings from the netherlands!
I like listening to new music choices...I love music..and will leave a window open to listen to a whole playlist. That said, I can't tell you how much I hate players that start up automatically when the page loads. If I am browsing late at night, it totally sucks to leap three feet in the air when the sound starts up, and I can't find the widget on the page to turn it off before it wakes the kid or the dh in the bed next to me while I am on the laptop. If I have to restart my browser, I usually have 20+ windows open, and when the music starts, I have to hunt through all the pages to find the one that has the music on it to shut it off. And lastly....I usually have my iTunes already playing, and the new music pops up, and interferes with my own stuff. Even weirder is when I don't immediately notice it, and start wondering why the heck my song sounds SO ODD. lol
I like music... but with the option of me turning it on. I really love the music you choose, but sometimes I'm already listening to music while I'm "working" online.
Keep up the great work - your site is one of my favorites!
Blessings! Dawn
Sorry I was late on this one---but I always loved your music! Even if I hate a particular song playing on someone's blog (unless it's offensive) I just let it play, because that's what that person is all about!
Glad you kept your player up anyhow ;)!
YES! keep it! you have turned me on to music I didnt even know I liked-I remember writting you about how my husband was humming Go Put You Records on-lol
well now when I hear that song I think of you and your wonderful blog and how I enjoy reading what you have to say because i know it will make me smile and sometimes bust a gut laughing. : )
u are so funny! and F.Y.I. I often read your blog and then listen to the music over and over while I'm cleaning. so yes Please leave the music.
I like the music and the variety you have shared. Many times it is something I have never heard before. I've only been reading a few months, and when I started, you had some old gospel-y song. I can't remember what it was, but it was kinda cajun sounding.....I don't know, it's been awhile. But, I loved it. Loved it, loved it. And it's always fun to come back and see what's there each time. I've been out of town due to my Mom's illness, so haven't checked in for awhile, and I missed the Zacharia thing. Dang! Anyway, my vote. Music, please!
I love the idea of music on webpage, but I think there should be a way to turn the music off if you don't like it. Unforcunetly I read blogs while I'm at work, and all speakers are to be turned off in the cubical farm.
I love that you keep, and make fun of your spelling mistakes. As a Dyslixic, spelling is one of the things that keeps me from posting and commenting more frequently. I feel like I can actually be my none perfect self with you. So... You're getting my comments without being copied and pasted into word, to then be brought back over to the comment feild. I'm actually chocking back tears that I found someone who I feel comfertabel with enough to do that. *hugs* thank you.
