I've been spoiled by large, wooden floored, soaring two story foyers in my last few homes. Do you see my foyer in this photo? 
I measured the sofa and laid out it's size with my mistreatments. Gosh, it looks so normal in my current house but I think it's gonna be HUGE in my new house. See that black sofa table/desk thing? It takes up negative room in my old house but here, it's a major piece of furniture! OH, I am so excited about all the possibilities and the fact that I will be forced to be creative! I would rather have a home that's a little small and cozy than huge and empty. You know we have lived in both small and large homes. In my book this is a big house but it's got lots of small rooms. 
And when I move, I always leave my ring clips attached to the fabric, just one less thing to have to do.
PS I've got a few tassels listed at the etsy shop. I'll ship them on June 3rd if you purchase one anytime soon I just hate having an empty shop.

It's going to be beautiful! The charm and creativity that come out of small spaces is awesome! I hope the move goes well and just so you know, I never tire of seeing your window coverings. The red makes me smile every time. Love red!
You have such a talent to make a house a home. Whatever the size of the house, it's cozy and warm from your charm.

I, too, am foylerless. Have been all my married life. A couple of years ago, God gave me a wonderful birthday gift: an oak jelly-cupboard sort of piece that fits beautifully beside my front door! It holds my purses and other stuff and I have a mirror over it. It helps break up the entrance and holds necessary junk!

Without being able to see the rest of the room or a floor plan, it's hard to say, but...
Wondering if you had thought about flipping the sofa around to the wall where the desk and mirror is currently laid out. Then, place the desk, mirror and chair over by the door - just on the carpet.
Okay, maybe there isn't a wall there?
ohhhhh, I have NO doubt this place will be off the charts fabulous!!!! With all the decorating skills in the world it is a pain to not have a foyer (I dont have one myself). I do baskets, shelves, cabinets, you name it but it always seems to "block" something...cant wait to see how you inspire others on that one. Im like the student with pen and paper just perched and ready...lol..NO PRESSURE..lol

Nester, for purely selfish reasons I'm excited that your new nest will be smaller. Mine is 2400 square feet too, with no tall ceilings, foyer, or anything fancy. I can't wait to see how fabulous you make your new cozy nest!

Alright, since I delurked yesterday, I might as well keep posting. :) I feel you on the lack of a foyer. I do, at least, have a strip of hardwood flooring that leads from the front door through to the kitchen--but my foyer isn't a seperate room or anything. I think using the back of your sectional will make a nice little separation for your foyer area.
I'm looking for a sofa table similar to your black one and in my 1700 sq foot home, every piece of furniture counts! I can't even imagine having it take up negative space! It will be good for me to see how you decorate a smaller space. Keep those pictures coming!

Hi Nester! I discovered your blog a couple weeks ago and have really been inspired by your creative and thrifty ideas! I can't wait to put up some "mistreatments" in my new house. I have to laugh when you talk about moving to a smaller house-- we are moving this weekend from a 600 square foot house to a 1000 square foot house, so smaller spaces are my thing (I live in Southern California so space is at a premium here!). Can't wait to see how you make use of your space-- your entry room there reminds me a lot of my new one!

I am so jealous that you are actually unpacking and decorating. I still have more than 3 weeks to go. And then I will hopefully be almost through before the fall; however, I am changing decorating styles and want to paint some furniture. Painting will definitly have to wait until after we move - I would hate to scratch up a new paint job.

Girl you are never ending.... I love waking up to a nice new post. Really dont know how you do it but we are all glad that you do!Some of the best spaces are the cozy ones. My house is not on the larger size. We have 4 bedrooms that could always be bigger. My oldest is almost 18 so I know my little chickadees will fly the nest sooner than later, sad. Oh man! What a canvas to play around with. The fun thing about moving from a larger house to a smaller one is that you now have a "store" of goodies to shop from and put into different spots. Have fun and keep us up to speed! :)

I like smaller rooms too. Large open spaces are not cozy in my eyes. Lots of people like that but I'm just not one of 'em.

I have been out of town for the past couple of days (without computer access) and about had a nervous breakdown because I couldn't blog and see if The Nester had posted anything new! Your taking a picture of your picture on the roller coaster made me laugh hard! I would have done the same thing!
i fake a foyer in my small bungalow style house, just because i love them so much! having smaller space definitely makes you have to be more creative, and i totally know what you mean about the sofa table being a "major" piece of furniture! i feel like that with everything!! i'm excited for you all to be taking this step, and i know you'll be blessed for it. hope settling in goes well.
cozy is good even though we have our house up for sale for "more room" and better schools!
we have a "foyer" similar to that, stinks doesn't it. so hard to make it WOW in such a tight spot!

jaybird--so sorry--i never knew the name of my fabric! i found it in the back room of a fabric warehouse place and they ordered more for me but i never asked the name--hurt me! a few readers did find something similar at joanne's on line! good luck
I'm catching up on my reader and am a little behind--BUT--I cannot wait to see how you are creative in your littler space. I try so hard not to let the ugly walls in my 1036 sq ft of space close in on me, but sometimes I can't fight it, even with fabric and upholstery tacks.
That is why I have been outside planting flowers, forseeing the near future when I systematically kill them off one by one, or rather, more correctly, in a mass flower genocide. Yes, to the shame of my mother and her farmer father, I am a flower killer--ironically--of the ones I love the most. The woes of living in the desert, but pretending it's not one.
Brilliant common sense to leave your ring clips on. I'm the type of dumb--- who would have systematically pulled each one off, crouched awkwardly on my countertop or rickety chair (because our ceilings are 6.2 feet high). After which, I could guarantee ring clip genocide.
Ooh--random thought/question: where have you liked buying Roman shades, like the ones on your boys' room in your old nest? I am on a quest for some real ones and am NOT brave enough to sew any.
