Imperfectly Beautiful

IDHTBPTBB

Otherwise known as: It doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful. Words to live by doncha think? I get so inspired and secretly happy and feel so normal when I see other moms do things that look great but aren't perfect.

Am I the only one who feels joy and confirmation when I see a photo on a pretty blog that shows a beautiful lived in family room complete with comfy seats, and creative wall hangings and toys and empty capri suns all over the floor?

I like it when someone does things their own way. Breaking the rules. And it turns out just fine.

Maybe you are a busy mom and you don't have time to fill every frame. Can I just tell you how happy I was that some of you observant readers noticed this? For real. I'm not being sarcastic. I love y'all!

My life's not perfect but it sure is beautiful.

Don't you want to join in the fun? This Monday I'm planning an "Imperfectly Beautiful" post. With a Mr. Linky for YOU to share your imperfectly beautiful life with us. I need to see that your life isn't as perfect as it seems. And I'm dying to see how beautiful it is.

As usual, there really aren't really any rules to participating in this. Write a post or post a photo of something, anything that is imperfectly beautiful. Come here on Monday and link up and then we can all visit everyones imperfectly beautiful life. And maybe even get inspired.

This is a great time to use this button--go to the link on my right sidebar for installing it. I'll have it at the top of my post on Monday. I know some of you don't like blinkies so maybe if we ever do this again, I can have Darcy make a button that doesn't blink.

So what do you think? Are you in? I already know what my photo is gonna be! Can't wait!

OOOH, this is so exciting! My house and everything around it is imperfectly beautiful all of the time! Two of my boys even had a marshmallow fight in the living room last night...shoulda taken a pic before I had them clean it up (bugs and all, doncha know...) Love, love, love your blog...and I've already taken the "blinky"...me...the queen of hanging up oblong tablecloths at my windows...with clip rings of course (again, no picture....)!

Now that looks like my house with my three boys =) Girl thank you so much for posting this!!

I love your blinkie, I will try to figure out how to put it on my site.

This is a fantastic idea, Miss Nester - wait...you're a Mrs - but Miss sounds so much more southern. That's what I teach my boys to call you if I knew you in real life.

This will be so encouraging! I'm going to have a hard time choosing which imperfectly beautiful (emphasis on the imperfect) thing to share. Life with two little boys gives you plenty of imperfection.

Thanks!

Please keep posting pics like this. I too, love to see a nestified room that is lived in. Thanks!

I'm already hyperventilating. Does this "Imperfectly Beautiful" post come with a paper bag? Because I'm going to need one. Not because I don't have a spot to show, but because I'm going to let someone see it! Right now it's my office. And garage. And my dresser. Last time I put away my clean clothes Clinton was in office. :oX

My life is imperfectly beautiful for sure. I'm so glad to know that everyone else's house (and life) aren't perfect either!

Yay! I'm in!

i'm sure mine will contain legos...

and just one question...can you show me a pic of that "black frame with the chalkboard inside", is there a "rod" going across it for some reason? i'm thinking yes and it's giving me great ideas!!!

thanks!

Omg, my entire house is imperfect. I had to chuckle about the empty frame... There's a chick in rollerblades in a multiple opening frame and when people see pics of my family they say, "and who is this?" Um...yeah...that would be my very athletic cousin once removed?

What a fun idea! I've got plenty of imperfectly beautiful rooms around here. It's hard to know which one to choose...

Hmmmmmm....most of my stuff is imperfect...I'm working hard though to see it as beautiful. It's hard for me though. I'll have to spend some time thinking about it though and see if I can come up with anything...

I love it!!! This is great!!!

I knew I should have taken a pic of my pile of laundry on the bed in the guest room. I mean ALL my laundry. I usually fold a load or two as it comes out but I've been so busy catching up with all the cleaning that I just kept dumping loads on the bed. I think I spent 2 hours last night folding and putting it away. Now I'll have to find another photo of beautiful imperfection. I can assure you it won't be hard and I'm excited to join in!!

Nester- Beautiful disaster is how I like to think of my house! I have a set of picture ledges and a few frams below it well 3 one for each kid, and one picture is crooked one is empty, I just don;t have that size picture of the baby and one of my beautiful daughter, IT drives my mom nuts but 2 frames would have looked funny! She thinks 3 and one with out a picture is! LOL
I will definately play on Monday and can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with!
Go NeStEr! (the wave again for you) you rock!

You are a BRAVE woman to leave your drill like that--one of my little munchkins would have come along and drilled a hole into the floor! They're fascinated by tools and "fixing" things.

I'm excited by the thought of a Mr Linky--I love getting a peek into other people's homes!

Hmmmm, I just don't know if I could have my perfectly perfect house looking at all imperfect by Monday. Hee-hee! Seriously, I needed this today. Thanks for keeping it real!

I have your blinkie already...and I have a ton of adorable pictures of my kids that have a trashed house in the back ground...did not send those out to the relatives.

I love your ideas Nester!! You are my cat's meow!!

I had to laugh out loud when I read about unfilled pic frames. They are plentiful around this nest. My son actually refuses to have me take one of the stock photos out b/c he thinks it is a pic of HIM. Heh.

I am up for the imperfection idea!!

Deserae said...

My house is full if imperfections....I'm not sure I'm brave enough to share a pic of them all though?!?! It might traumatize everyone! LOL

Ohhh! I can't wait!!! My computer has been having "issues" so I hope I get to join in...if hubby can help me figure how to put that linky button on???? (I'm sure it's not hard...but remember, it's Staci...who uses these.... because she can't form a complete sentence without them!)

I think I would like to join in. Will have to think about a picture.

I'm relieved to see that you really do live it up in your house. Was worried for a little while that you were wonder woman disguised as a SAHM.

Oh, I am a master of imperfection. What a great idea. And you know that I am all about the empty picture frames. I've probably got at least 10 of them scattered throughout the house right now!

Katie said...

Sounds like fun! I have plenty of IMPERFECT things in my house that at least I think are PERFECT & BEAUTIFUL! Some of which I have you to thank for, Dear Nester...like all my window mistreatments, and table skirts, etc.

I'm so in on this one!

I LOVELOVELOVE this post!!! I love your whole blog actually, but this post really touches me as I sit here amidst moving boxes, unsure of when or where we're moving, big wooden dominoes & cars all over the living room floor & a 4 year-old & a cat plopped right in the middle of it.

You are the best. I was just about to have a meltdown... PMS, hubby coming home from a week long work trip, 3 birthday parties tomorrow that I don't have presents for yet... My kids haven't gone to sleep before 11pm in 3 nights... And they haven't slept later thank 7 am! I am the perfect picture of imperfection today. Oh, and the grass needs mowed so BAD I'm afraid I loose the dog in it. And my FIL's boss is coming to MY house to pick up tickets!

Julie @ Sweet Chaos said...

Oh, yeah, I forgot to say I was amused by the picture of your kids on the bed! Your son is gonna kill you later on for that one! (Make sure you put it away until a really good time--like when he's in college and brings a girl home... Ha!) And, I think I love you even more for showing pics of your kids in their drawers. I'm hoping it was taken at like 3 pm on a Wednesday or something. Just so I know my kids aren' the only ones like that!

Yay! Messy pictures ;)! I think it's a great idea. A really beautiful room is still beautiful no matter what kind of action it has going on in it. And, in fact, the "action" usually makes it that much more beautiful!

I'll dig out my messy pictures and participate!

hey, this is a holy thing, Nester!! I'm serious! When we can unapologetically show our lives for what they are and call it beautiful, that really gives me joy. And it gives God joy. Too many times I feel like I judge the other moms I know and THAT'S WRONG. None of us is perfect and we all seem to pretend we are so often. . .
Well, I got carried away. This just touches my heart and I wanted you to know. Love your blog!

Amen Sista! This is what REAL life with kiddos looks like. Actually, I think those who have things ultra perfecto are the strange ones :)I am looking forward to Monday - ah now to limit which of the so so many possiblities of which not perfect room to share. Have a great weeeknd and can't wait to share of Monday :0)

I already made my messy post. :p Does that count?? And it's not the complete mess...it's my sewing room AFTER I straightened it up a bit. :p

Oh, this will be easy, a little too easy!!! I'm so excited to see everyones imperfect house. You are brillant, just brillant. Not only have you give me a reason for my home to be imperfect, but now I have something to post about. Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou.

Dear Sweet Nester, once again you've put a smile on my face with your honest, down to earth approach to life, imperfectly beautiful, I absolutely love that! My new mantra!

Now to somehow wrestle more than 15 minutes of computer time from the husband and son so I can figure out how to post pictures to my blog, lol, yeah like THAT is going to happen!

Keep doing what you're doing, you're inspiring a legion of imperfectly beautiful baby birds to flap their wings and live authentically and unapologetically. Bless you Nester for being so beautifully brave!

Okay, Nester, you inspired me! I went under my bed and pulled out the yards of beautiful fabric that have been waiting years for me to "learn to sew properly" or "finally afford to hire a decorator." I pulled out my "inspiration file" stuffed full of pictures ripped out of 10 years worth of shelter magazines and collected my favorite window looks into a pile. Then I got out the scissors, sewing box, and my hot glue gun and got to work "mistreating" my windows. They aren't perfect, but they are beautiful.

I had let perfectionism keep me from even starting for years. My mom, aunt, sister-in-law, and cousin are all interior designers
and I was worried my efforts would never live up to theirs. Thank you for letting us into your home and showing us that it is okay to take shortcuts to create beauty!

Happy Birthday to your baby!! My oldest just had his fourth birthday this weekend too. His actually landed on Father's day for real, so I was a bit sentimental. Good thing I have a real little tornado baby to snap me back to reality.

Okay I have every intention of joining in on the fun, but blogger isn't letting me post pics!!

I found your blog through Mrs. Jones! I love love love it!

I had to comment on this post in paticular because my little boy loves Nascar and races them all around the edge of our table... I showed him your photo and he got the biggest smile on his face!
Just thought I'd share ;)
