If I were rich beyond reason there's no doubt I'd be surrounding myself with fresh flowers, live berries and fruits all the time. Flowers next to the toilets, flowers overflowing window boxes, I would drive a parade float around town instead of my mommymobile..
But, since I've been given a different sort of riches, I decided to shop the house and grabbed this yard sale urn.
And combined it with these lovely, light spa green pretend berry type things that I plucked from my fall/winter wreath. All this time they've been ignored and under appreciated because I was assuming that I could only utilize them half the year. I can just stick them back in the wreath when I'm ready to hang it again.
Have you shopped your house lately? Why not look at those Christmas berries through your July colored glasses and find a new way to use them? What seasonal item have you repurposed lately?

Ever since Kimba's DIY thursday, I've been looking at my things with a new perspective. I've been "shopping my house" recently, but didn't know what to call it :)
... everytime I go to my basement and look at my "decorating" shelf, I pull out some "new" item. I have also been enjoying some great new colors of spray paint - voila! old becomes new!
Looks great - I try to do this as well, although I usually have better luck shopping my mother-in-law's house!
Love the blue urns!
Ever since I have come across your blog, my husband laughs when he finds me walking around the house just staring at things when he asks me what I'm doing and I tell him I'm shopping! You have been such an inspiration to me, my husband especially wants to tell you thank you for helping me realize that it doesn't have to be 'new' to be beautiful either!
Been trying to shop the house lately to get some summer stuff going, but my home store looks like it's going out of business. LOL!!!
I love the shade of those vases but I really try to steer clear of season thins except for the fresh arrangements - clutter is not a friend of the organized homw for me, I have a tough time managing it~
Those urns are so pretty, love how you "shopped" the house! I did that all day yesterday, for my "red room makeover". It's so much fun to redorate and repurpose, and I surpised myself with how many hidden treasures I found!
Yesterday I went crazy with spray paint. Simple black matte spray paint. I had so much fun!
Love this!
You've got me thinking about what I might find in our basement that is so filled with stuff...I'm not sure what great decor item might be lurking under all the boxes. Hmm. Looks like I know what I'll be doing this afternoon.
Very Pretty!
Have a wonderful Monday!
XOXO

I love it when old things look new again. I used to keep bins for seasonal things. Now I just have them all together so I can see everything at once. This seems to be working better for me now. Have a great day.

I love to "shop the house"! It's the only way to go. A lot of the time I even come across things that I forgot I had!
Just lovely...
I shop my house regularly. My aunt has been an inspiration in all of what I do with my home. She has always said to shop your home first-love it!
Oh, I so agree....I actually have an old baker's rack in my basement that holds all my do-dads so I can easily scan what I might need. It's amazing sometimes the things I find that I forgot I had!
What a great idea. I love to shop the house, it really makes me take a second look at what I have. The vases and flowers look gorgeous. Hugs, Marty
I did that the other day. I just haven't utilized my finds just yet. I really want the foyer to look like a welcoming kind of decorated place. But I don't have the moolah to get a "proper" table and such so I'm thinking of using a big empty box from a play kitchen, some old window treatments as a table skirt (& to hide the fact that it's a box not a table) and some stuff on top. Wish me luck!
Hey! The kids brought me an abandoned nest from the tree out front, as well as some empty robin's eggs. I was looking around for more eggs to fill out the nest and remembered an Easter basket my Mom had given me a few years ago. They're speckled and pretty realistic, so I borrowed a few from the basket. I'd completely forgotten I had that basket! If you had asked me beforehand, I would've sworn I didn't have anything here that would work. But all I had to do was look around!
I shop the house all the time! I love finding new ways to use "old" things. It's recycling at it's best!
You have inspired me to dig through my closets and hope chest. Would love to see a blog on spray painting. How do you do it; how many coats; what brands and colors are good, etc. Sometimes I think that white looks too fake/stark - any suggestions you have would be appreciated.
Gorgeous!
Let me put it this way. I need a stockroom. I'm not kidding. I have boxes of stuff downstairs that I go to on a reg basis to change things up. I've purged alot through my reno, but there's just those great pieces you can't do without nor get rid of but don't quite need 'right now.'
Love your urns!
Donna
Looks great! I 'shop' my mom's house quite a bit when I visit her, lol
Purty! I'd give my left arm to find that fabric you have on that table! I've looked high and low and can never find it. It's so cute!
Thanks to you I helped my neighbor shop her house and rearrange her bedroom. She was so excited!
Hope you are getting all settled in your new home.
I am definitely going to 'shop my house' with a different eye today. I posted today about my little fresh flower secret. Drop by if you get a chance.
I am doing the same thing! Changing the whole decor in my house (on the cheap) has forced me to do a little "shopping of the house" to see what I can reuse & repurpose. I don't have a money tree in the back yard either, and it is amazing what you can do with your own stuff (or a friends).
Bugs, it's at Hobby Lobby and last I heard it was $4 per yard!
SILK!
Well, this post has me thinking!!!! :)
THIS BIRD THINKS YOU SURE ARE A SMARTY PANTS.
I AM CURRENTLY SHOPPING MY HOUSE AND GETTING RID OF WHAT I DON'T/WON'T USE.
MOVING CAN DO THAT FOR ME. FINDING THINGS I FORGOT I HAD.
HUGS FROM MAINE
Oh, Nester. Looking through July-colored glasses. What a great way to put it. Brilliant.
I used my red Christmas ribbons over the 4th of July for a pool party! ;-)
Great idea, you are so awesome! I have actually been trying to do that more and more. The fewer chances I have to go shopping the more creative I have to be, not a bad thing really, is it. Hugs ~cindy s~
PRETTY!! I am always shopping my next....my husband thinks I have decor A.D.D.! It keeeps me busy....and creative!
I just posted about a new mistreatment that I did. It has Nester written all over it. If you get a chance, swing by and let me know what you think!
I have moved 3 times in the last year. I have shopping my house a lot.
i like the idea of reusing the christmas wreath in a summer way.. nice idea.
You know what I think it looks like? All that coral that's the rage right now and selling for HUNDREDS of dollars at places like Williams-Sonoma Home. Yep, great job, Nester. Kelly
no doubt. you are genious.
I too would have fresh flowers over the entire house if I was rich. However since I am not, and since my house needs a freshening up ~ I to am trying to re do my house with 85-90% of what I have, it is nice to see someone else working on projects witha frugal mind that turns out sooo very nice - I lov e your blog and all your ideas!
