this is how my boys repurposeI'm planning to have my yard sale tomorrow and I hate to admit it but I keep pulling things out to keep. Things like empty frames and pretend fruit that I can paint. And I have a feeling that you have things stored away in your garage, storage shed, attic, under the house--that you could use in your home if you forced yourself to consider how.
Walk through those areas with a different perspective and see if you already possess something that you can find a fresh purpose for. Whether it's a door, chair, dresser, lamp, table, or whatever I bet you can find one thing that you can repurpose.
Some of the most fun and rewarding projects I've done in my home have involved using things that I already had that I thought were junk and then realizing how glad I was that I was able to use it.

I wish I lived close - I would come buy up all your "junk"! I have LOVED this series - it has inspired me to really rethink and repurpose things I already have - so my husband is thanking you too!
I'm good at tossing things, but when it comes to home decor items, I usually let it hang around for a long time until I figure out where to use it again.
Sometimes just putting it in a box for awhile reminds me of how much I always loved it. Oh, vase I missed you! (kissy, kissy!)
I'm off to find something to rescue! Why is it that it's easier to imagine something in a store (even when it's a thrift store and cost $1) in my house? I'm going to look around!

Clever boys...love their creativity. :) I find myself sometimes rescuing stuff I have in the Salvation Army box. Picture frames, mostly. :)

I have a custom made cushion from an old bench (long gone) that is so oddly sized it doesn't fit anywhere else. I've started to pitch it about fifteen times but can't because well, you know, it's custom! I can't wait to pull it out of storage next month and see if it fits in the new house. Keeping my fingers crossed for that and for your yard sale tomorrow.

OH-I should stick with the subject, huh? Yes, we're seriously into repurposing here! For instance-Old scraps of wood became shelves in our odd little shed, tripling the storage area and getting my plant pots off the floor and arranged by size. Old bricks now frame a small sidewalk and keep our tomatoes from attacking people...mostly. I have two tapestry valances that just SCREAM 80s but will make dandy throw pillow covers or fancy Christmas stockings as gifts for friends.
I've had a garage sale pile in my garage for about a year (no...not a procrastinator at all!), and I keep pulling more and more out of it. Suddenly those mirrors I didn't think I would ever use again are the perfect solution for my bedroom, or that stick/pomegranite thing that nobody in their right mind would ever need becomes the perfect Fall decoration. Crazy...

Hope your garage sale goes well! My downfall is doing a garage sale with someone else. I end up spending all my profits and more by buying their junk. :) It's a sickness, I think.

I've recently put myself on a month long buying ban and decided to shop my house. So things that I didn't think I would ever use, I will pull out and rescue. Things like the antique chairs with caning on them that are broken, will get fixed up. Who cares if I paint them? (my dad will have a heart-attack when he finds out) No one is using them right now, right? Who cares if I actually put new seats on them with upholstery tacks? No one is using them right now, right? I'm so excited!!!
We wanted to have yard sale this weekend, but it's supposed to be 39 and rainy. Lovely. And if only I could make my way through the garage, I'm sure I could furnish a whole house down there. One dusty, 1990s house, for sure. :)
Although I do think it is great to repurpose, don't you think that part of making a house a home is NOT keeping too many things that you MIGHT use SOMEDAY? Is that fruit that you may want to paint worth keeping for who knows how long taking up valuable space--when you could have cold hard cash instead?
I am on a "search & purge" mission at my house. I feel like we are drowning in our "stuff" but I don't want to get rid of too much...does this make sense?

I am a first time commenter here and very new to all things in the land of blog. I am simply amazed to have found so many wonderful blogs about home decorating and home life in general. I especially enjoy the Nesting Place and am happy to post my first ever comment on a blog here! :)
I wanted to say that I stumbled across this series somewhere around day 12 or so. I was so thrilled with the ideas that I backtracked all of the posts and started at day 1, taking notes in a notebook (only to find out that I was prepping myself for day 25! LOL!)
For those of you who are so sad to see it end, here's an idea: why not just start over?
I intend to use all 31 days worth of ideas as a monthly "checklist" of sorts. Who says you can only do the days one time? Like #1 says, "Move something." Why not move another thing? #2 is give something away. Lord knows I have more than one thing I should be giving away!
This whole experience has me thinking in a whole new way and I think I am going to add the entire list to my new "Goal book" and just repeat it again and again, as a kind of daily "housework" routine for home decor.
Maybe some of them won't work again and again (like don't keep raising your drapes each month!) but with a little tweaking, I bet the majority of them are worth repeating. For instance, instead of raising the drapes, why not use that day to clean them instead???
I have a whole new outlook after this series and cannot wait til Nov. 1st when I plan to start the entire thing all over in a day by day approach! I even plan to put a holiday spin on it so that decorating for Christmas will be a daily gradual thing instead of my typical do-it-all-in-one-day-and-exhaust-myself-routine. Using the curtains example again, how about adding a pretty Christmas ornament to each window, suspended by a pretty ribbon from your newly repositioned curtain rod? ;)
