A Simple Garland

This year my garland is simple. OR simpler than last year. I still love a full, fat lovely garland but for some reason this garland wasn't packed with the rest of the Christmas stuff so I had early access to it and I realized how much I love it.

It's just two strands of natural looking plastic garland from Hobby Lobby. Bought a few years ago a half price. I looked this year but I couldn't find more. I like how real this garland looks with it's yellowy brown edges.

I made three tiny holes in my mantle {because I'm not afraid of holeyness} and just attached the garland to the tacks.

It was kind of plain so of course, I had to add something to it. I found a few picks of red cherries and berries and just laid them in. Then I tore off a few leaves from a fake branch and stuffed them in as well.

Very simple. Very pretty. Very done.

Need an even simpler garland? Follow Layla's lead and use a strand of beads!

I was all about simple when I started decoration this year...somehow it um, got away from me. But my mantle is cute!

I found some lighted garland at Michael's Black Friday and was all excited to use it on my mantle, and then realized when I got home that there is NO outlet anywhere near the fireplace. UGH. So frustrating. I ended up tacking it up over the archway between our living room and dining room and it looks really nice. I decorated it with a few ornaments and some other leafy garland I had and the outcome was probably better than over the fireplace.

The garland is so real looking and it is beautiful on your fireplace. I don't think I've seen that at HobbyLobby.

Love it! Simple is good. It is so often true that less is more! :)

Very pretty! I didn't even get the garland on my fireplace this year, so I guess you could say mine was the simplest garland ever--left in the box. Ha.

It's my Hooked on Holiday House Tours party tomorrow--hope you can join us! :)

Very pretty! I actually prefer a bit simpler - like this - than your gorgeous one last year. I need to watch for "real" looking garland - I've only been able to find the plastic kind cheap. But it's still pretty, especially with strings of lights!

I have been all about simple this season - dragged out a couple of bins of decor and only chose a few things to put out. My fireplace has no mantle but I like this simple garland idea. I'll be on the search for some discounted strands after xmas.

I love it! Today and tomorrow are my garland days. I am a garland snob and avoid the fake stuff. But I'm also cheap and won't buy the real thing for $$$$ only to toss it in a month. So I make my own, using the greens from my yard (holly, bay, magnolia) supplemented with profuse tree clippings (lowes gives me extra for free), and added in a little fresh cedar from my wholesale florist for $10! I'm post some photos when I'm done, and maybe a tutorial...

I like both styles you have shown... Although I like the simplicity of this one- it really lets the green comet through and shine! I just love your mantle, I wish I had one!! :)

Beautiful and very similar to one we do. Less is more is my motto...

Love it! Hard to believe it's fake :-)

Wow I will have to go have a look at these in person. It is so hard to find a fake garland that doesn't look cheap.

Another simple way to decorate is to take a grape vine wreath (or evergreen) and wrap it with a garland. You decide how fancy or plain the garland is and you don't have to wire or glue anything.

I did this for autumn. You can see my two wreaths on my front door in my Halloweed post.

It took 10 minutes and looked great!

I dont have a mantel. I wonder where I could hang garland anyway?

Omg I love it! Someone was selling the real thing around here but I was worried about how fast it would die so I didn't buy it.

It's perfect. I love the garland, decorations that are simple are often the most beautiful. I just finished decorating our own holiday home, and am ready for the party to begin!

I have that same garland!!! I LOVE it. I also looked at hobby lobby this year to find more and was so disappointed that they didn't have any. It's my favorite!

So simple and beautiful and of course, you make it look so simple!

I'm so behind the times. I made a big fat garland this year for the first time ever based on seeing the lovely one you did last year and now you tell me thin is in. Boo. :-)

Last year I "Nesterized" my mantle and went beefy and LOVED IT. This year I tried the same and it didn't do it for me. I won't even take a picture of it. And then I see this post.

I had been desiring a more realistic look and then BAM that's what you go ahead and deliver. You seem to be setting my own trends. What IS that?!?

I love the simplicity of this new real look VERY much. Thanks for the added kick in the right direction yet again. :)

Just beautiful! I really thought that it was all natural until I read farther into the post.

I like it! You always have to work with the room and this room really doesn't seem to take well to over the top embellishment, does it?

Beautiful !! I love your simple garland; however, I still laugh reading your post from last year when your garland came tumbling down moments after taking pictures. I'm hoping that doesn't happen to my 50 lb. garland this year !! Thanks for giving us a peek into your creative life ... I look forward to joining the Holiday home tour party next week !! Take care, Becca (adventuresindecorating1.blogpost.com)
