Here is another post for your reading and viewing pleasure where it took me three times longer to write the post and take the photos and doctor them up than it did to actually do the project. I'm hoping it was worth having a filthy house and unwashed sheets and missing Oprah.
This week I'm telling you that I am gonna show you the playroom and the homeschool room. Why, you ask? Maybe because I am so wanting to share every nook and cranny of my home with you? Maybe because some of you keep emailing me begging me to show you where my boys play and learn? NO. {sidenote--I changed that color to be really dramatic and now I don't know how to get that regular color back, hate me} I wish I were so kind. I am doing it because those rooms are both disgracefully messy and the only way they are gonna get any cleaner is for me to promise you that I will show them to you. So I must.
I am starting with a wall in the playroom. Because I have yet to clean and my boys can't pile toys on the wall. The room is a small bedroom. It's painted builder beige of course and I don't feel like painting it. I think lots of fabric with color and texture might help it feel more personal. So let's get too it!
*Get you a canvas or 12. Or any number that you want. Maybe you have old ones laying around that are painted on--use those if you don't need them anymore. I had some left over from an old project that the boys did.
*Next you need fabric. I have a huge stash. This is why you should always keep scraps of fabric. I keep all things fabric--old drapes, tablecloths, pillow cases--I'll bet you have something right now in your closet that you could use.
*You need a staple gun {Matilda} and staples, I use mine quite often. But not near as much as my glue gun--you need that more--but not for this project.
Now, wrap that canvas
I like using different fabrics that look good together and then hanging them really close together. You could stop right there and have a great wall. I only have three canvases and am not about to pay full price for them. So as soon as they go on sale again I am buying six, yes six more (2 for $5) and putting up 3 rows of 3.
Let's make this a little more interesting. Grab some extra ribbon and some ring clips that every woman should have in her home. Loop that ribbon, thread on a ring and staple it to the back. See?
Now stagger the lengths and use different colors...
Better, now let's staple on some ribbon and fringe vertically too!
Looking good! I'll post more photos as soon as that sale starts!
PS I just heard that Corine Baily Rae's husband was found dead. I am so sad for her, please keep their family in your prayers. She's the one singing this song that you hear.

Another super idea! BTW, I've been raving about you on my blog...today I linked to 2 of your posts. I'm totally a copy-cat.
This is a really cute idea! I would totally do this if I had material to use... hey maybe if I can get it out of my sewing machine that it's stuck on! ;)
Thanks and it was soooo worth missing Oprah!
Rue :)
I just bought a bunch of canvas, canvases? at the thrift store that had really ugly paintings on them for a dollar or less each. I had no idea what I would use them for but knew they would be useful. NOW I know what to do with them! Thanks Nes.
Great idea. I'm not crafty, and I think I can do this. Hmmm. By the way, who first started saying "hate me," you or Em? She said it the other day a couple of times, and then I see you say it print. Funny. It's great when sisters say the same things.
LOVE IT...I have everything except the clips to hang the pics from. You truly do inspire!!! Even if I dont have exactly what you put down that you need it gets my juices flowing to think of what I do have that might work. THANK YOU.
I love this! I will have to try it sometime when I have the wall space. :)
Such a good idea! You are just full of them. This is one that I will definitely be doing.
Oh my gosh! When I added you to my favorites, I accidentally added ONLY your Curtains 101 post ... not the home page... kept coming back to your blog to see ONLY curtains 101, but I SO wanted to see more ... was wondering when you would post again. LOL! Aiyee aiyee aiyee ... sometimes I feel like SUCH a dork.
So ... today I clicked on home and VOILAH! WOW! Amazing! You have all kinds of good ideas and you keep em coming. Tons of posts! You in your size two with all of your great ideas ... So I just added you to my blog roll. I love your ideas. Thanks for sharing!

Hey I'll send you advance sale notices, lol, we get them in the store a week before so you can plan your shopping trips. I totally love this... great use of scrap junk too of which I have a ton...Now to search for some canvas'...
Now what kind of dork am I that I forgot to put my name on my comment!
good ideas. I definately have some canvas laying around here!
So cute! I love this! You come up with the best ideas. I too love that song and saw that her husband died, so sad.
Hope you had a nice Easter and a fun time shopping!
That is so cool!

I just gave all my old painting from Art school to Goodwill...might have to go buy em back! Great idea, and I love how you use it to display things from your life. I am with you...I like art, but personal decor is so much more, well, personal!
that would make for a cool inspiration board...hmmmmmm
neat idea.

Such a cute idea!!! I am all about "feathering my nest" with personal items. It's the best!!!
Great idea, Nester. I stand in awe that you take the time to not only do something as crafty as this, but show the ideas here, as I know how long it takes to blog about them. You are a better blogger than I am. When I manage something remotely crafty (which of course is rare, let's be honest) I look at it and ask myself if I should show you all. And usually the answer is, heck no. Leave that to The Nester. Give her something to do. Keep her busy. Keep her out of trouble. :-) I love your easy ideas. So glad you are out here, spreading the easy & doable crafty goodness. You go girl.
Now get cracking on that play room! Can't wait to see it.
xoxo

This is a wonderful idea. I have bben looking for a creative art project for my daughters room. this is both practical and beautiful. Thak you for sharing.
What a fun idea. You're my craft hero!
Stop by sometime. I'll fix you a glass of iced tea & you can put your feet up. :D

LOVE this idea!! I'm pretty sure I'll be *copying* this one:)
Nester,
I needed to scream your name here in the Pee Dee of SC. I saw a giant barn star that reminded me of you. I was hunting in a "new to you" shop for furniture.
Contact me if you want to know more....
Thank you for the AWESOME idea...I can't wait to go home and get started (I have 3 canvases that I found curbside - they were garage sale signs that I picked up because I knew "someday" I'd find a use for them). Thanks! When I finish I will post them on my blog!
Janae
Love the idea about the canvases.
I'm confused though. If you're talking about "I'll Fly Away" from the "O Brother, Where Art Thou" soundtrack, it is sung by Alison Krauss and Gillian Welch. At least that's the song I heard on your blog today. :)
Yes, I'll Fly Away used to be my first song that was played. I've been mixing it up lately. I think most people turn their volume down anyway! CBR's song is the first one playing but if your volume is turned down when you start reading it is probably off by the time you get to this part!
If you scroll to the very bottom of the blog you can see all the songs and pick which one you want to listen to! That is if you even keep the music up! Hate me for being so confusing!!
I am so excited, I ordered the soothing white bird tassle from you. I am dreaming of where I will display it. Thank you for your creativity.
Heather
I love this idea and am so glad you missed Oprah to show us!
Would you do this in your living room or do you think it's too casual for that space? My decor is very casual - nothing formal.
I've been wanting to ask you if you would do a custom tassle? As in I send you a picture of the piece of furniture I want to hang it from and you design something?
I've been blessed by your blog and beautiful ideas!
Jenifer
I think you could use it in any room! I did a few more today and when you have 9 or 12 together with 4 or 5 different fabrics they sure do look great! I might not even add more ribbon and stuff now that I see them all together. I'll post a photo when it's all done!
Hi nester.. It's you I wake up to each morning. No I dont go for coffee or a toaster struddel. It's you my friend. I think Oprah is missing out.. not having you on her show. Please keep up the good tips. Ps... you would be proud... I did curtains... hope you check them out! Thanks again. Hope to see you in the morning! :), Susie H.
Oh, and you asked about a tassel, yes, I can! I saw a few emails at my etsy shop that I haven't gotten to yet, hope one wasn't you!
You can email me from my blog profile page!
I just LOVE your Blog and have added you to my Blog (Traditional Tropical) as a place to visit!
I visit here often to view your style and what is new! LOVE your style! And the music is nice too!
I saw that about Baileys hubby too. Terrible. And this song fits your blog perfect!
Great idea with the canvases! I've done bulletin boards before, but this looks so much easier! Hmmm... Now I'm gonna have to think of a place to steal, I mean use, this idea.
By the by, I've been thinking about showing my kids rooms on my blog too, but have the same problem, they're too darn messy!
I just did this 2 weeks ago with spare fabric I had (I also did a semi-matching mis-treatement above my cheap IKEA curtains) because I was tired of staring at a blank wall. I used canvas stretchers that were on sale at Hobby Lobby for 50% off (look, I'm bargain-y too). They were just wood mitered to fit together and you could buy varying lengths. I did one large and 3 small and think they look great but now I want to jazz them up with ribbons, and photos and letters. Thanks for the idea!
I hope you don't mind, I posted a pic of your finished product and a link to your page on my blog (if you do, let me know and I will remove it). Thanks for the fab idea!!
Janae
this is SO awesome! I might have to try it sometime!
I went gaga over this idea and promptly went out and found the supplies to do one for my studio as an "inspiration board." Took me about an hour to complete and maybe $20.00 (using some things I already had on hand). I love it!
