Bargin Time

Tour de Rental 2008 has been interrupted for the 37th time for yet another special announcement. Remember my somewhat seatless porch I showed you last week? Remember how you all have been praying feverishly and wishing on your pennies for a porch swing? By the way, my parents called after that post and offered to buy me a swing! Thanks Mom and Dad! They didn't have to. Mom and I found the mother load at Garden Ridge. In the clearance section. It's not a swing but man is it ever georgeous!

Got this chair too. Oh look, a price tag...

Yeah. You know I didn't use my hard earned tassel $$ for that. It was marked down to $40 and considered damaged merchandise. Then all damaged merchandise was an additional 75% off. $10 for this chair. $22 for the bench. Stop. The. World.

Here's why--the pvc fake wicker is unraveled on one leg of each seat.

How does one fix an unraveled leg? You already know. It's initials are HGG.

The old salvation army finds blends right in with the new stuff.

And on the back patio, $20 worth of twins. Mom had to buy these because they were so cheap but won't have a place to put them for a month or so. No worries, they are safe and sound right here.

Good luck, hope you find them too!

Yea! I really have been sending you porch wishes each time I pass my Goodwill on the drive to work! This is probably even better because one day you can move these inside if you have a screen porch. This made my day!

So glad you found such a great deal...hmmm, at that rate, you should be able to get a computer on clearance someplace! I love the black wicker...so perfect!!

I love you're toile pillows - that fabric is so great.

This is crazy that I am the 6th bird when normally I stroll on over and there are 77 tweets already logged.

If I'm going to be a bird, it's a blue heron.

love it! Look comfy!

so glad your previous black wicker chair got to have some of its relatives come live with it. You really are the queen of bargains---and hot glue-ing. Surely there has to be some way to tack fabric to your walls. I've seen that before in very English rooms. I think your bedroom is gorgeous---but too white to be Nester. Ah well--the plate wall more than makes up for it!

Those are some amazing deals! Great finds.

I seriously need to invest in a hot glue gun...lol :) Your porch furniture is lovely.

I'm going to Garden Ridge tomorrow and check these! I had a really old sturdy wicker settee that we cut the legs off and it made a great porch swing. I sold it when I didn't have a house with a front porch. Now I have one again - hate myself. Nancy

What a deal! I wish there was a Garden Ridge close to my house.

Wow! I am so jealous!

We don't have Garden Ridge's here. I wonder if it's worth a road trip from Alabama :)

Kitty Scraps said...

Which GR did you go to? My closest one is in Greenville SC I think unless there's one somewhere in Gastonia? I seriously need some front porch furniture. Monday driving to work I was crossing the Broad River bridge when I noticed a pick up truck of ummmhmmm(lowers voice when I say this)rednecks that were sit up right across the bridge on the side of the road and were selling junk! I slowed down as much as I could and spied a black wicker chair and looked to be an ottamon! I couldn't stop as I was on my way to work but I quick called my mister and asked him to stop on his way south. He claims they were gone by then! I should have stopped, I could have somehow managed to get it into my Kia Rio! Tired it to the top or something! Afterall the Beverly Hillbillies managed to move a open truckload of stuff across country, surely one determined woman could manage a wicker chair and ottoman in a Kia, right? LOL I'm so happy for you and it all looks great!

Great score on the wicker furniture! I have white wicker on my front porch (although I didn't get nearly as good of a buy as I'm not patient - it was on sale, but at the beginning of the season so...)Anyway - I love it and it holds up great on my non-covered porch!

I miss GRP so much since I moved back to New England! I love the black wicker and the fabrics you have chosen! Do you think your mom might forget about those chairs being at yor house?

Christi said...

It looks fantastic. And what a deal! I so happy you found a solution for your front porch problem - even if it's not a swing!

jennifer p, Yes!!! the room Is too white for me. But, It' staying that way. it's my challenge and they don't want me to paint walls here!

kitty scraps--south charlotte. too bad you missed out on the cheap junk! i am secretly in love with The Beverly hillbillies reruns. yesterday, i caught the very first episode where they find out they are rich and are told to move to Californy and it was fantastic!!! They thought their new mansion was a big prison. Hate me, it was wonderful!

Nancy, "hate myself" Heart you!!! Laughing out lout at that! {i have a pet peeve of saying LOL along with candles with the wick unburnt.} cutting off the legs for a swing--Your genius is showing!

You'd be so proud of me. I went out last night and bought a hot glue gun
(with 50 sticks...I'm feeling ambitious), lots of spray paint, some ugly plates that I am going to paint...ala Kimba, modge podge, fabric, more scrapbook paper to try on canvas....stop me, you've created a monster. All that made me late for a bulk cooking class that I was teaching at Westover....UGH!!!The ladies felt bad for me - they thought it was kids induced. You think I was going to tell them it was because I got side tracked at the thrift store, Joanne's and Michael's...no way.:)

Amy said...

AWESOME!

Kimba said...

Yeah you! Those are some fantastic finds!

I'm so tickled to read this post today! I have an old wicker rocker at home (that I picked out of someone's trash). So embarrassed. Not.

The wicker around the legs is unwrapped and I was doing all this research on how to repair it. It was kind of complicated and I was thinking of putting the chair out to the curb again. I can't believe I didn't think to use the HGG! I can't wait to get home and fix up my chair!!!!!!!

How chic! What thoughtful parents you have. I am going to check out my Garden Ridge now.

Darlene said...

FABULOUS!!!! Now why can't I ever find any deals like that?!? Oh, maybe because there are no great stores like Garden Ridge around where I live. Those are lovely and what great deals you got on them!!!

Trixi said...

Oh, what a great deal. We don't have a Garden Ridge anywhere near us. I so need something on this vast wasteland of a backporch we now have. Oh, well, all in due time.

we have a Garden Ridge but not nearby. I might have to go search it out when the kiddos go back to school. Your porch looks so inviting. Makes me want pillows on my bench!

Awesome deals! That's almost too good to be true! I would love to find a deal like that. My mom's wicker set is on it's last leg. She is just waiting to find a deal like you did. Wish we had a Garden Ridge around these parts!

It all looks great!

Annie said...

Hold the Phone! I found Garden Ridge stores in KY! yahoo! They are both 2-3 hours away...but maybe for a day 'shopping' trip. I have never heard of Garden Ridge. Are they kinda like Old Tyme Pottery?

I looked at GR's website, they have sofas, and big pieces of furniture too. Hmmmm, I am very interested in visiting....

Julie @ Sweet Chaos said...

Ok, I'm jealous too. I don't have the width on my porch enough to place furniture. It has to go under my carport, how tacky is that? But it functions and it looks ok, and we love to sit outside. We just can't park the car in our seating arrangement!

Congrats on your good find. See, God is good ;) !

All of it looks great! I never find good deals like that. Why is that? Guess I need to shop more.Darn. ;)

Heathahlee said...

I am so slow it took me a good five minutes to figure out what HGG meant. Doh!

I love the fabric on the pillows. Is that some you had leftover or is it weather resistant so you can leave them outside? I have some iron benches and chairs that were my grandmothers that seriously need some cutening up with cushions, but not sure I want to put just regular fabric out on the porch.

Anonymous said...

We don't have a Garden Ridge either. Bummer! Those finds are awesome.

Hate you!! (LOL)

Just kidding of course. We bought a porch swing a year or two ago and I sit out there and read to my homeschooled kiddos. So much fun with a cup of tea or a nice cold glass of something yummy by my side.

DH and I have been wanting some white wicker to put on our porch, but the price is always so high. We just rescued a hideously bright painted yellow set that our neighbor had out for the trash. My sweet dad painted it white for me (it had a matching table/ottoman too). I love when things you want come your way :)

Katy said...

oh my gosh!!! What an AWESOME FIND!!!!

I love a find like that! Good job. It really pays to keep your eyes open and to be open to making small repairs. Beautiful!

Okay I am trying not to hate you too much for having a Garden Ridge. I do, however congratulate you on your good finds.

I found some plastic outdoor furniture at a yard sale recently where the table and 2 chairs were $6 for the lot. They're actually pretty cute. Thanks again for the inspiration!

Oh my word! That's such a good find. I LOVE, LOVE them. A little jealous here ... :P

It must have made your day!

Holy incredible bargain, Batman! I'm telling you, you must have some kind of shopping angel that whispers in your ear and tells you where the good stuff is. :)

Omg, how freakin' adorable are they?! I don't think I could love patio furniture more than that set. It would look really great on my mini-deck that is not being punished by atrocious green LAWN CHAIRS. I know. Could someone possibly report us to the home decor police or something so that my husband realizes the absolute NEED to replace these insults to society? Thanks.

In the mean time I think I need to go obtain some clearance black faux-wicker. LOVE it.

Again I am sitting here with my mouth open wondering how you find these bargins!!!

I have been looking and looking for good bargins and can find none. I have going to thrift stores which can sometimes give me the heeby jeebies. Nothing not a thing.

I will keep on though something has got to be out there.

I BOUGHT THAT EXACT SAME CHAIR LAST WEEKEND!! I had to pay 55 though and I thought I did well. AGHHH....my Garden Ridge has lots of them left so I guess that's the bad part. I also bought the same pillows. I am proud that I am now thinking like a true nester!!

Hate you. For real. But then, you're heard all about how stores in UT suck.
So.
I'm not entirely to blame
that my furniture is lame.
And I've been wanting me some wicker.
But everything I see makes me want to bicker.
(Okay THAT was lame.)

SHUT UP! Where did you find them? I am running out to see if I can find the same damaged stuff. I love it!

And your sister is so cute. She's so excited about her feature. I hope it also sent a few people over to you so they can buy your tassles........NEW COMPUTER!

I hope that Garden Ridge has called to thank you for the great marketing you did for them! I love that store...and always go to shop while visiting kids and grands in the Dallas area.

Oh, I miss having a GR nearby. It's a great spot for a variety of things.

Nester, I really love your blog! You've inspired me so much! Thank you!!!

Denise said...

My sister drives about 40 miles to Garden Ridge quit often! I just might have to go with her now!!

Mandy said...

Drove from my town to yours cause we don't have a GR here and no more outdoor patio stuff in the damaged section. *sigh* I tried real hard to convince them to move the damaged pieces (because there were several) to the damaged section, but they put me off with lots o'scuses. I won't back down though...will be on the phone tomorrow :) I did pick up a 7 x 10 rug and two shower curtains for $11 total and could've bought a leather couch if I had wanted it for $30. Great deals!

Mom in High Heels said...

Man, is there anything you can't find a bargain on or fix with a glue gun?
I love the chair and settee. I'll bet they make your porch look even homier than before.

Shameless self promotion: anyone interested can follow my 1500 mile road trip on my blog. It's just me, a 5 year old and 3 (yes, 3) dogs. Pray for my sanity.

Miss G said...

Wow! I'm gonna have to go look! After seeing your porch I wanted curtains too! I picked up a couple of shower curtains with nice big grommets already at Target for $10.99 each. They're for the college crowd setting up a dorm room. I am so excited to use them on our balcony in our first little home. I've been contemplating furniture and now I have a starting point! Thanks! Kelly

Honey child(I've always liked that saying), I want to shop with you!!! I got my porch set for like 75 percent off at Pier 1 over a year ago, it was so nice. I like 75 percent and I LOVE my HGG, it does almost everything!!!! I hung plates, Nester, I did it, I finally took the plunge and now, um, I'm addicted to plates. Would it be bad of me to hang them in my girls rooms? Nester, I love your blog!!! You RAWK!

Love the furniture and the chairs your mom bought are exactly what I have been looking for...jealous but what a steal for your mom. We have a Garden Ridge so it prompted me to go there today and see if I could find a fabulous deal.... SCORE! I will post pictures soon.

How interesting! We just got a similar deal ($400 5-piece fake wicker set for only $150) because it was "damaged" in the same way. I used hot glue and it worked perfectly! I was just going to post about this this week and you beat me to it!

Congrats on the great deal...it looks wonderful!

Oh I am loving your blog. I found you by way of Blissfully Domestic, and I am tickled that I did. I am in love with all that wicker and hope to have a porch of my own very soon. I can't believe you got all four chairs for under $40... A.Maz.Ing! I have some wicker that is waiting for a porch, but those two chairs in the last pic are FABULOUS!!

Blessings,
