A few photos of the keeping room. It's the only lady room in this house with three boys and a big strapping man. I'm lucky to have it. No red. No santas. No stockings. Not much money spent. But a warm chill has crept over this room.
Not that there's anything wrong with red. Remember the before? I just switched out the piece of fabric from the table and shopped the house. Here's what else I did. It took all of 20 minutes.
Vintage bells Habitat ReStore $1.69, tiny fake fall berries $4 Hobby Lobby, silver mixed with white dishes.
Texture from the Goodwill $2. This was a middle of the summer find!
Natural, from the restore 69¢.
Feathers and the pretty wings that broke off of my favorite angel. From my stash.
Silver final from the Goodwill. $2.
Shopped the house.
Cloche with glittered house: $5 Walmart last year after Christmas sale.
And the reason.
You better believe it. Nests work in every season. And don't you worry, I've got red stockings and colored lights going up in another room!
You have until midnight tonight to enter to win the small words contest. Good luck. I never win anything.

Yeah, I never win anything either. I'm hopeful, though. 814 comments yesterday? Wow!! I guess that doesn't improve my chances:)
Love your "lady room"! Oh, the wonderful things you find when you shop Goodwill & the HOUSE! Love your pretty silver touches!
Can I just say that I. heart. you.(without being a weirdo?) I LOVE that you still have your same basic elements with the apothecary jars, shells, feathers, etc. but it's a new twist for winter. I love the bird cage in the urn with the feather boa. Fab-u-lous. It keeps continuity with the rest of your home yet is still fresh. You are my hero.
Thank you for sharing your lady room with us! I have 2 boys plus DH - they were always great about letting me decorate anyway I wanted.
Love that you decorate so beautifully using goodwill and cheap!!! I get a kick out of some blogs that I see where they say they got a bargain and yet it was hundreds of dollars instead of thousand. I am into the .25 - 2.00 range!!!

everything looks great, so warm, cozy and pretty!
The "keeping room" what a lovely name! And what Goodwill do you shop at? I never seem to score anything that great, and I hunt!!
You decorated beautifully! I love the natural look of it all.
Oh how I long for a "lady room" all to myself! Everything looks fab as always...Nester NEVER disappoints. P.S....I am totally jealous of your wicked awesome thrifty stores. We have Goodwill and Savation Army, and aparently they think they are department stores. Their prices are laughable!
I love your room. I wish I had a room. Dh says the whole house is my room, but that's such a lie. And I never win anything either. I enter a billion contests (okay, maybe just a hundred) and I never win. Ever.
wow...wow... and triple wow...! i love it. it's almost all white and I like it. It is soft yet beautiful!.
You know I heart that feather tree! This post has convinced me that it's time to head to the Habitat Restore for sure.
P.S. I have some good news for you!
I want to shop at your Goodwill because the one I sometimes frequent in Clemmons has nothing but broken junk usually! Awesome room! I love it! I have two boys, and I know all about wanting some "me" space! Very elegant!
Hey! I love your hutch...Very sweet and calming...:) I love to shop the house...Years ago I had a booth and I would shop the booth...Id tell my hubby i was off to shop Screaming Meme's...:) It was free and fun! Meme
Everything is beautiful as always.
Where did you get the Christ is born ornament and HOME sign? Please tell me on etsy!!!
LOve it, especially with all of the great finds!
So so pretty, wish you could come to my house. I am so busy at the store.... no time to pretty up my own home.
That looks so pretty! Goodness, I love that cabinet/hutch. It always looks so great!
You are so gifted! These photos are better than any i have seen in magazines. Very Nell Hill like. Stumbled across your blog on facebook, added it to my RSS yesterday. Counting my blessings this morning when i read your post. It has made my day!
Blessings,
Marie
Wow, it all looks so pretty and winterish! Maybe if I shopped YOUR house I could come up with something like this, too. ;-)
Oh it looks so soothingly peaceful.
Have a great eye for wonderful things and a lot of creativity. Love the decor! :) Vanessa
Marie!
Welcome! Now I'm off to see who in the world Nell Hill is! I like her already! And facebook? oh my!
Kari--I love your comment. that was what I was thinking when I wrote the post but didn't say it and hoped you could all read my mind. Thank you for reading my mind!
So pretty!!! I love your style...it is great how you added the silhouettes...love the glitter house in the glass container..just beautiful and festive!

It's so fun to have a whole new outlook with my yard sale/Good Will hunting. Never ever have I had a feather in my house (except ones that got tracked in by my chickens), but now....I am on the hunt for ones in the store. :)
So chic! Love your additon of THE reason!
Looks very classy! Very nature inspired yet elegant. Love the bargains. You're really good with finding nice things so cheap! Can't wait to see the red room next.
I started to write that I wish my Restore had as good bargains as yours,then...wait a minute, we're both from the same town. I shop at the Wendover one. Where is yours? Just think, I could have passed you in the aisles.
Oh!! Here it is!! :) This is me leaving a message. Can I leave like 27 of them? Will that improve my chances? LOVE the letter/name board. Gorgeous. :) ~marce
Absolutely beautiful!
Can I come live in your lady room?
Must find a Habitat Restore....
I always love what you come up with...especially when you just shop through your house. I look forward to the day when I've been in my own place long enough to do that.
Beautiful!
I am seriously coveting your feather tree - I've wanted one of those for a mighty long time.
Looks great!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the room......the lady room. That's sort of how I feel about my den. And I have the Same HOME sign in my kitchen from HObby Lobby. It was the perfect thing for a lonely corner!
Thanks for all your inspiration!
Suzanne
Everything looks incredible! I love everything! I would love to be gifted in this sort of thing.
Beautiful as usual and who really tosses out all of that great stuff?
I'm in love with it. It's cool, but warm. It's fresh, but cozy. It's everything. I'm off to shop my house, but I don't think my store is as good as yours. :)
I bought the same cloche at walmart after Christmas last year! But I think I only paid $2.50. :)
simple and gorgeous!
You have created such beautiful vignettes in your lady room...and shopping the house is a smart thing to do. By combining little things we already have, a "redesign" always brings a fresh breath of beauty and fun to a room, doesn't it?
Lidy
You are a superstar! I am nowhere near this creative. Thrifty yes, but this creative no. And being in the middle of the South Dakota makes it harder. Goodwill is nowhwere to be found. I would like to think I could be this creative. But I'm not so sure. I think I need help. So I'm glad I found you. Though I do have a fabulous (if I do say so myself) Christmas tree. But the rest of my house is not so hawt as yours!
I love your blog.....whooohoooo! My daily refuge...peace of mind, meditation etc etc etc site.....
just love it, Nanette
It is all beautiful. I love the simplicity of the hutch with the all white dishes and touches of greenery, it is so elequant.
Well done, but you always do it all so well.
Happy holidays!!!!
Nester,
HGTV Design Star is accepting audition videos...
http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/pac_ctnt_988/text/0,,HGTV_22056_69252,00.html?sortby=recent
...just sayin'!
OMG. She should so go for the HGTV design star audition. I LOVE That show!
Everything in your lady room looks so nice and purdy! I want to crawl in there right now. {That'd be pretty creepy}
Wow. You are amazing! And super-uber talented.
What a beautiful room! And the nicest part about it? It still looks like a place you can live in, you know? A place you wouldn't be afraid to sit on the furniture? Anyway, that probably sounds stupid 'cause I'm not that gifted in the word department.
I made a post about my little Ragamuffin Memo Garland! Check it out! Not close to your talent but a good try anyway!
Love all of the decor!! Especially how you combined everything so beautifully! :) And I agree that a bird's nest is a year round thing! My sunroom tree has several on it!!
Looking good. I love the vintage bells that of course you got at a store that doesn't exist here in the desertous mountains, but I think I'll live. Maybe.
So, if this is the one room the boys can't go into (even though you probably still let them in), do you secretly call it the preservation room? I WISH I had even just a tiny space all to myself where no children could enter.
Its official. Goodwill here in my town stinks. The only Christmas stuff we ever have are 1980s mylar wreaths.
Oh, and inflatable yard art.
I'm actually totally okay with no red anywhere for Christmas. A few years ago we really changed the color scheme in our house, taking out reds and yellows and bringing in lovely pewtery blue shades and browns. So last year I went through and "de-redded" my Christmas decor. It is now golds, silvers, whites and greens with a few touches of non-tacky blue. Loved your tablescape . . . right up my alley.
the chill in your lady room is nothing short of warm.
Very pretty! Love the glitter house and cloche, especially!
I never win anything either! *sigh* such is life.
Great thrift store finds!
I love it all!
Wow! So pretty. I need to bulk up my 'stash' of decorating items. You find some great things at Goodwill, and good prices too! Your $2 items would have been probably $6 at my area Goodwills.
If you continue to post these pictures don't be surprised to find me on your doorstep, with my suitcase. Okay, maybe two suitcases. But not the dog, definately NOT the dog.
What a cozy space you have there. I'd want to sit there and read. All day.
So Soft and Serene! Love you sense of style and quick changes. Ho, HO
All looks wonderful, love your simple but great touches. Like that big red finial, can I have it? LOL
Thanks for sharing!
Linda
That looks absolutely gorgeous! As always you did a wonderful job. :)
You really are so gifted! I love visiting your site & seeing all of your ideas :)
I love it! Love the colors and I love everything in there!
I love shopping the home, I think I will shop it tonight..I'm in the mood :o)
Your ideas are always so inspirational....I just love your style....especially your use of checks in such a "non-countrified" way.
Ahhhhhhh, your room makes me feel, ahhhhhhh. We live in a rental right now that has a lovely deep, brick red wall that is all along one side of the house so it is in the family room, kitchen, dinning and formal living room. I love the color, but it is alot of red in this house. So I eliminated red in my Christmas decorating, it is almost refreshing, at least for one Christmas. Feels very wintery and natural.
P.S. Did almost all of it by shopping the house, who wants to invest in a rental!?
You are amazing.I'll echo Kari and say that you are my hero!!
(And I also have three sons in my home...my only "lady room" is my bedroom.)
I've decided that I need a shrine to femininity at my house. Some place where I could place a glass jar (I'm afraid to buy anything but Mason jars) or bulb or even a twig without it becoming a target or a weapon or a place to house a bug.
So what are your Keeping Room Rules? Keep the heck outta that room or else...? The only place I can keep my kids out of is the bathroom and that's because I lock it!
Love you! I'm working on the garland thing. Still haven't found feathers... Do I need feathers? Might need to grab a cactus because I can't find me ANY greenery in this here desert! I'll post on my progress later.
How do you find that stuff!!!! It looks great!
My husband found me a real little birds nest in our yard last weekend. It was tiny and precious. I set it on the kitchen counter while I was looking for a place to put it and my dogs got it - ooohhh I was so mad!!
i call my "lady room" the girlie office. we all need one! :)
Your decorations are so sweet :)!
