If you haven't figured it out already, I'm on vacation. Actually, I just came back from vacation early so I could repack and go to She Speaks. Oh, and my sister and I have/get to speak there. But it's worth the stress because Emily and I get to share a hotel room and fall asleep laughing just like old times. I am beyond excited and nervous.
Our topic is "Defining and Refining the Purpose of Your Blog." It's been really good for me to hash out this talk with Emily. She hashed, I laughed, got distracted, and tried to make funny jokes. Knowing the purpose of your blog really is the key to being able to make decisions about blogging and not blogging. The highlight of course, will be getting to meet lots of new people {ok and sharing a hotel room with my sister, did I mention that she is the funnest person in the universe?}. Meeting new people is also the most daunting part for me and my introverted self. I usually act stupid or embarrass myself when I meet new people. Speaking of embarrassing myself, if you are coming to She Speaks, be sure to sign up at Jen's for the bloggy meet and greet so we all can meet!
Lastly, I've got a full email inbox--if I haven't responded to you, thank you in advance for not taking it personally. Sometimes the blog tries to take over my life. Thank you so much for understanding when I do the right thing and put family first. If you too struggle with balancing blogging, make sure you read Blogging and Balancing Time @ Keeper of the Home.
Next week, I'll take some time to recap our She Speaks talk. I think it will be good for us all to have a little heart to heart about blogging. Thanks so much for reading. You are what makes this blog worthwhile!

Sounds like me spending time with my sister, I couldn't ask for a smarter, funnier bff!
I think we all struggle with walking the balance beam of blogging, I'm working on it.
I hope you have a wonderful time!
Good luck with speaking and most importantly have fun!
I am so happy for you that you have such a great relationship with your sister! Something I can truelly appreciate since I don't have it. {but I continue to pray for-she is 7 yrs younger than I am}
Have a safe and Blessed trip!
p.s. GREAT family photo!! :)
I'm excited to see both you and your sister this weekend. And I'm excited to read about your talk next week! Praying for both of you while you prepare. :)
Good luck and have fun! You'll be speaking about what you know, so you'll be fantastic.
Hi Nester, that just hapenned to me a week ago. I just had to quit my blog for some reason I don't really know. I can tell one thing my lifewith my kid and my hubby has changed so much in just a week! Spending time with your sis made think about my sis and the wonderful time we always have when we get together once a year, we get to share our old bedroom in our parents house and spending some time talking about silly things and laugh. Wish you have wonderful time there! Best, Vanessa
She. . . speaks. Boy, do I wish that I could be there to hear you and Emily. Your audience will be so blessed, getting the two of you at one go!
Your subject matter sounds really good and very timely. A couple of times I've just thrown something up onto my blog so that I'd be consistent with posting. I've actually been thinking that we may all be doing a little better job of blog/life balance in the summertime--no one has time to post every single day, and since no one is posting every single day, no one else feels the pressure to do so. Know what I mean?
You and Emily have a great time. I'd like nothing better right now than to get to hang out with my sisters for a bit.
BTW, I LOVE that picture of your family! Your little guys are getting so big! But you're still taller than your offspring, I see. Me? I'm the shortest in the family by a good bit now. Oh, well. Wouldn't trade my guys for anything, even if I do have to reach up to hug them. :)
You are gonna have a blast!! I wish I had a sister!
can't wait to hear what you learn & bring back from the event.
have fun!
Have fun! I get to see my sister this weekend too. :) She's flying in from Texas for her bridal shower. I wish I could go to She Speaks...maybe next year. :) Can't wait to read your recap!
Can't wait to meet you and Emily! It's going to be so much fun!! You both are in my prayers! Glad you had a good vacation!
Hugs!
Susan
Sounds like a wonderful time...I am sure that your talk will be as informative, entertaining and authentic as your blog. Best wishes!
Y'all are such a cute family!! I love the picture! If you and your sister are anything like me and my sister....mercy, I can only imagine... Have fun!!
Good luck! I'm sure you'll be great, and be so impressed with your little self once your presentation's over. I hope you have an amazing time!
Unfortunate to cut family time to speak but good for business so ultimately good for family, I hope.
I wished that I was able to attend SheSpeaks. Are you going to speak at Blissdom in 2010? I didn't make it in Feb, but have full intentions on going the next time.
Have fun with your sister!
Good luck to you in your speaking venture. I'm an introvert, too. I somehow managed to make it all the way through high school without taking Speech class. I still can't figure out how I pulled that one off. The first time I had to speak in public I was so nervous that I threw up. Not that you really wanted to know that! I'm sure you'll be great - especially with your sister at your side. Just keep in mind that most people are already familiar with you through your blog. We love you or we wouldn't keep coming back!! Best wishes and have a great time!
Have the most wonderful time! How wonderful to have time with your sister and have the opportunity to speak at this event! Janell
Blush, my husband had to come home early anyway to work--self employed so I was able to come home with him.
We were thrilled to have some time away!
Who better to share this unique experience with then the person that knows you better than anyone!!
Have a fabulous time!!
hope you have a great time. wish i could be there but i'd rather hide behind my computer.
I truly love when you talk about your sister and all the laughing that goes on! How fun!
Have a wonderful time...wish you would tape it and we could listen to all you say off your blog...ever thought of that???
Take care! Sandy Toes
p.s. I wrote a comment asking about your tin white drink holder...where did you get it???
Hey you! Good luck at She Speaks~you both will do fabulous. Loved the article at Keeper of the Home and LOVE knowing I'm not the only one in blogland that doesn't twitter or facebook?? How does everyone find the time? Huge breath of fresh air~thanks for the link! Hope your vacation with the fam was wonderful~
I SO want to go to She Speaks! I need help defining/refining myself!
Hope you have a wonderful time with your sister! I know you will!
I've been trying to define the purpose for my blog lately. I think it has no purpose other than to keep in touch with other bloggers. I've thought about quitting it all together and just go back to reading instead of writing. Maybe I'm already there? Times change, interests change. I have started another blog where I have really found my niche! I would love to attend one of your meetings! Thanks for all of your inspiration!
I hope you have a great time! Wish I could be there to hear all the great talks! Having a sister to laugh with and spend time with is priceless. If you haven't already, you must read Pioneer Woman's experience at BlogHR and the funny story (more like embarrassing) she posted on. She says herself she is an introvert...it will give you tips on what not to do. lol. Can't wait to hear all about it!
Hugs friend,
~Victoria~
Sandy Toes:
it was a pottery barn find $19.99 on clearance!
Dork here, I was logged in as my sister. She used my dumputer earlier.
Good for you for taking time off and spending it with your family. I struggle with balancing my time. It always seems like there is so much to do and not enough time to get everything done.
Have a wonderful time with your fam!
XOXO
Jen
Have a great time at the conference, mama!
P.S. Mrs. Wilt is back to blogging, and I remember that you were a visitor at The Sparrow's Nest and wanted to give ya an FYI!
Have a wonderful time! Oh, I so wished I could have gone this year!! So many wonderful topics to hear about! But finances and moving schedules unfortunately didn't allow. I can't wait to hear about your topic when you get back!
I seriously need to hear what you and Emily have to say about "Refining and Defining your blog." I have really struggled over the last year since Chloe was born (or maybe it was just because I was having too much fun with another baby) but I think it's because I need to refine and define! I was very content with loosey goosey post whatever you want the first year and had lots of fun. Then when it wasn't fun, I just stopped blogging. Looking forward to hearing your recap.
And don't even get me started on your gorgeous men! I love the glasses on your oldest baby and the missing teeth on your blonde baby and the sweet smile on the baby snuggled under the arm of his lovin' mama, and of course your big strong man in the back grounding the whole family. God is so flippin' good!
Happy "She Speaks!" I hope the conference is a lot of fun!
I think that is maybe the lighthouse at Hilton Head? Have fun where ever you are!
I have wante to go to the She Speaks conference ever since it started! I am sure it is amazing this year! Maybe I will make it next year!!!!
Have Fun with your sister! Reading this post makes me want to go away with my sisters. Blogging can become a full time job if you are not careful. I also wanted to invite you to participate in my giveaway. It started today and it will go on until Monday morning. Good Luck!
SheSpeaks will be wonderful. I hope to go one year soon. I have a few friends attending this year and one is so hoping to have her manuscript accepted. We're praying for Sandy on Heart Choices.
I always enjoy visiting your blog and look forward to reading about the conference. Many people who write well are a bit shy in person. But know that many people love you and look forward to meeting you. I'm sure you'll do great in teaching others what you know and are learning about blogging. I love to read your blog.
Hey, it's Lindsay from SheSpeaks. Just thought I should let you know you're on my feed-reader...keep the tassels comin'! ;)
Ohhh, aren't sisters wonderful? I am blessed with two and I also have three daughters. They are all my best friends! Good luck with speaking! Hugs ~cindy s~
HAve a great vacation! When you get back, stop over for my giveaway!
So great to have dinner with you at She Speaks Thursday night. And to glean from your and Emily's "no more blah blogs" session on Saturday.
You two rock! I like your philsophy on blogging (and life). Plus, you crack me up ... which is an extremely important quailty in my book. :)
Here's to new friends! ~ Rachel
and reading is worthwhile too!
Blessings from Costa Rica,
Sarah Dawn
